Travel Itinerary
SATURDAY, MAY 19TH – UNITED STATES TO DUBLIN
Depart from the United States for Dublin, Ireland. (Arrange air travel on your own in order to
arrive in Dublin no later than Sunday afternoon).
SUNDAY, MAY 20TH – DUBLIN ARRIVAL
Arrive in Dublin and make your way from the airport to the Camden Court Hotel. Camden Court
Hotel is a three star hotel located in the city center of Dublin. It is within walking distance to Trinity
College, as well as Grafton’s Street and St. Stephen’s Green, both of which are at the heart of the city’s
shopping district. At 6 pm we will gather for dinner in the hotel (included in cost) as we enjoy our first
night in Ireland together. Judy Rogers and Kathy Manning, our study tour faculty, will lead an
orientation for our in-country activities. This dinner will also serve as a chance for all members of the
group to meet and get to know one another.

MONDAY, MAY 21ST – DUBLIN
Visit to Dublin Institute of Technology (DIT). The Dublin Institute of Technology is one of
Ireland’s largest and most innovative university-level institutions that have been an integral part of
Ireland’s higher education for over a century. We will meet with student services staff, tour the
university, and plan to have lunch at one of DIT’s student restaurants. Afterwards we are planning a
presentation from the Union of Students in Ireland. The Union of Students in Ireland (USI) is the sole
national representative body for students in Ireland. Founded in 1959, USI now represents more than
250,000 students in over forty colleges across Ireland.

TUESDAY, MAY 22ND – DUBLIN
Visit to the University College of Dublin (UCD). The University College of Dublin was founded in
1854 and is Ireland’s largest University. UCD is one of Europe’s leading research-intensive universities
where undergraduate education, postgraduate masters and PhD training, research, innovation and
community engagement form a dynamic continuum of activity.

Overnight at Camden Court Hotel, Dublin
WEDNESDAY, MAY 23RD – DUBLIN
Visit to Trinity College. Trinity College Dublin is recognized internationally as Ireland's premier
university and was founded in 1592, making it Ireland’s oldest standing university. Here we will tour the
University and see the Book of Kells (tickets included in cost). Celebrated for its lavish decoration, the
Book of Kells is a 9th-century gospel manuscript famous throughout the world. Afterwards we will visit
the Higher Education Authority of Ireland (HEA). The HEA is the statutory planning and policy
development body for higher education and research in Ireland. It is the funding authority for the
universities, institutes of technology and a number of designated higher education institutions.
After dinner on your own, we will attend a performance at the Abbey Theatre, Ireland’s
National Theatre (tickets included in cost). The Abbey Theatre was founded by famed Irish poet W.B.
Yeats and Lady Gregory in 1903. They aimed to “bring upon the stage the deeper emotions of Ireland”
and the theatre has remained committed to this manifesto in their journey to produce and commission
plays that reflect the unique stories of Ireland.

THURSDAY, MAY 24TH – DUBLIN TO SLIGO, INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY SLIGO
We will depart Dublin by motorcoach for travel across Ireland to Sligo through marketing towns
such as Mullingar and Longford, as well as through County Cavan, known for its beautiful lakes popular
with fishermen and artist alike. County Sligo, our destination, is a county of gentle mountains, lakes and
coastlines.
After arriving in Sligo we will visit the Institute of Technology Sligo. The Institute of Technology
Sligo opened in 1970 and has three schools, Business and Humanities; Engineering; and Science.
Afterwards we will check into the Glasshouse Hotel. The only 4 star hotel in Sligo, it offers great city
views as it towers over the Garravogue river. It is also located within close proximity to all that Sligo has
to offer.. Dinner and evening on your own.

FRIDAY, MAY 25TH – SLIGO TO CONNEMARA, KYLEMORE ABBEY & GALWAY
Depart Sligo this morning by motorcoach and travel through County Mayo and into County
Galway to tour Connemara and admire the sweeping views of boglands and misty mountains. Continue
your drive past Croagh Patrick, the pilgrimage mountain associated with Saint Patrick. Stop to visit
Kylemore Abbey, a 19th century neo-Gothic mansion overlooking Kylemore Lake. Originally a private
residence, it is now a prestigious girls' school. Visit the chapel and the restored Victorian gardens, which
have won awards. Drive to Clifden and stop for some free time to have lunch on your own. Clifden is
small, attractive Victorian town located at the edge of the blue waters of Clifden Bay. Continue to
Spiddal, a small village comprised of traditional craft shops ideal for buying Irish artisan goods.
Our drive continues then into Galway for a panoramic tour to see the principal sights of the city.
Our route will take you to the large modern cathedral set on an island on the River Corrib. See the
Spanish Arch in the Claddagh area, formerly a fishing village, the City Museum, National University of
Galway and the Cathedral of Our Lady, which is built on the site of the former county jail.
Check into Forester Court Hotel, located in the heard of Galway city just off Eyre Square. Dinner
on your own.

SATURDAY, MAY 26TH – GALWAY
Today you are at leisure in Galway, which has a pleasant and historic compact city center. Eyre
Square forms the hub of the city and contains the John F. Kennedy Memorial Park where you can sit and
people- watch. Many of the narrow streets, such as Shop Street, are pedestrianized and contain shops,
pubs and teashops. Lynch’s Castle dates from 1320 but is now a bank and you can see portions of the
medieval walls near Eyre Square. You may visit the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady Assumed into
Heaven, dedicated in 1965 by Cardinal Cushing of Boston. And you may like to walk along the rushing
River Corrib, which links the lake to the sea.
In the evening, you are encouraged to attend a performance of traditional Irish music. The Irish
music scene in Galway is one of the best in Ireland with skilled musicians playing in a host of pubs and
restaurants across the City. Tig Cóilí is a pub that hosts traditional Irish music seven nights a week and is
a ten minute walk from the hotel. Dinner is on your own.

SUNDAY, MAY 27TH – CLIFFS OF MOHER & BURREN
Our motorcoach excursion takes us along the shores of Galway Bay and southwest to the coast
of Clare. View the famous, awe-inspiring Cliffs of Moher, an impressive wall of rock that rises to a height
of 700 feet above the wild Atlantic waves and stretches for a distance of about five miles along the
coast. Then enjoy a drive through the Burren Country, an area of rocky limestone hills where a number
of unique flowers thrive. This region also contains many dolmens - prehistoric monuments formed by
large limestone slabs. Return to Galway where the balance of the day and evening are free. Dinner on
your own.

MONDAY, MAY 28TH – GALWAY
Vsit to the National University of Ireland Galway. NUI Galway is a constituent university of the
National University of Ireland. The university was founded in 1845 and their mission is to provide
students with a high quality education along with a personally enriching life experience in a safe and
culturally diverse environment.
Afterwards we will meet with a representative from the Central Applications Office (CAO). The
CAO is the organization in charge of processing undergraduate university applications throughout the
Republic of Ireland. Instead of applying to each individual college, students in Ireland apply to the CAO
for admission to higher education.

Overnight at Forester Court Hotel, Galway
TUESDAY, MAY 29TH – ADARE & TRALEE
We will depart Galway and travel through Gort and Ennis. Drive through the city of Limerick,
strategically situated on the River Shannon. Continue to Adare, which is famous for its main street of
thatched houses and colorful gardens. After a photo stop, journey into the mountainous country of
Kerry and along the Dingle Peninsula to reach Dingle town. Enjoy some free time to explore and have
lunch on your own. The Dingle Peninsula consists of miles of undulating hills, craggy mountains, and a
creamy shoreline curving at the edge of thick, fragrant woods. Then travel by motorcoachdrive to
Tralee, a market town and tourist center with fine Georgian houses. Check into a traditional bed and
breakfast in Tralee.
Dinner on your own and then attend a performance by Siamsa Tire - Ireland's National Folk
Theater group, (tickets included in cost). The actors and musicians evoke the spirit of rural life in Ireland
and the traditional everyday activities and social customs of a bygone era.

Overnight in B&B, Tralee
WEDNESDAY, MAY 30TH – TRALEE TO CORK
Leaving Tralee, travel east by motorcoach through County Kerry and into the rich farming
country of Cork. Arrive in Cork city and check into Maldron Hotel. Maldron Hotel is found in the heart of
Corks historic cultural quarter, nestled by the famous Shandon Bells and on the doorstep of Cork’s
newest premier shopping district, Opera Lane and Cork’s main road St Patrick's Street.
Upon arrival to Cork enjoy a tour through Ireland's second largest city set on the River Lee,
which divides into two branches through the city center. Cork is built on many hills with many steeply
sloping streets. See Shandon Church, a famous Cork landmark dating from 1722. Also see the Gothicrevival St. Finbarr's Cathedral, named for the patron saint of the city. In the evening you are free to
dine in the many restaurants and pubs that Cork has to offer.

THURSDAY, MAY 31ST - CORK
Visit to University College Cork (UCC). UCC was established in 1845 as one of three Queen’s
Colleges at Cork, Galway and Belfast. The University College Cork is the first and only in Ireland to
achieve 5 star university status as awarded by QS World University Rankings. After this visit you have
the afternoon and evening free to explore Cork.

Overnight in Maldron Hotel, Cork
FRIDAY, JUNE 1ST – CORK TO DUBLIN
Leaving Cork, travel by motorcoach through the rich dairy country of Cork and Tipperary, past the gentle
slopes of the Galtee Mountains and enjoy a panoramic tour of Cashel. Stop at the Rock of Cashel for a
guided tour of these majestic church ruins, which are clustered high on a limestone outcrop overlooking
the surrounding countryside. Of particular note are the highly decorated Cormac's Chapel, which was
built during the 12th century, the large cruciform cathedral from the 13th century and a round tower.
Then travel northeast through the scenic countryside to see the 6th century monastic ruins of
Glendalough; where the peacefulness of the valley conjures up the spirit of the monks. The Visitor
Centre explains how St. Kevin founded this settlement at a time when Christianity was burgeoning
throughout Ireland.
After your visit, drive into Dublin and check into your hotel. In the evening join your fellow
travelers for a farewell dinner (included in cost) at the hotel restaurant. This dinner will serve as the
official close of the study tour and will give us an opportunity to reflect together on our study abroad
experience.

Depart Dublin, Ireland for a return home to the United States per your own flight arrangements.
