Grimshawi Contig 25” Abstract Gene Annotation is the process of mapping and understanding genes. By using multiple programs such as Genome Browser, Gene Record Finder, Gene Model Checker, NCBI BLAST, and Flybase, one can map the many parts of a gene and understand what each part is responsible for. Every gene has exons and introns. Every exon has a starting phase, and endng phase, and a frame. There are many parts of a gene and by annotating it, one can fully map a gene and understand where something is and why it is there.
