ABOUT OUR PRESENTERS
Ivan Schraeder - The Lowenbaum Partnership, L.L.C.
Specializes in employment law with concentration on labor &
employment law, administrative law, municipal law and advises
not for profit organizations. He serves as general counsel for MO
Association of Counties and MO Police Chiefs Association.
Charles Morgan – The Lowenbaum Partnership, L.L.C.
Represents management interests in all aspects of labor and
employment law, with an emphasis on employee benefits and
ERISA. Although a majority of Mr. Morgan’s practice includes
ERISA, tax qualification of employee benefit plans and
representing employers in government audits, he also practices in
areas such as FLSA, OSHA, FMLA, employer discrimination
litigation and human resource counseling.
Cornell Dillard – As the Equal Opportunity Officer for the MO
Department of Labor, Mr. Dillard serves as mediator, arbitrator,
and investigator in hundreds of employees and management
disputes. He carries a combined 20 plus years of investigative
experience in state and federal laws prohibiting employment
discrimination and workplace harassment including sexual
harassment in both MS and MO state government and a proud 14
year veteran (disabled) of the distinguished US Marine Corps. Mr.
Dillard is a product of Jackson State University and the MS Law
Enforcement Academy where he received top honors. He is
currently the lead trainer of the MO Commission on Human Rights
Training Institute.
Barbara Beerman – Senior Training & Education
Specialist for the MO State Employees Retirement System.
Her prior professional experience includes developing and
presenting educational programs for several state universities, a
non-profit organization, and a major state agency. She received a
Bachelor of Science degree from Mizzou and is a member of the
American Society of Training & Development and the National
Pre-Retirement Education Association.
Kelli Hopkins – Earned BS in Speech/Theatre Education and
taught high school speech, debate and theatre for 13 years. After
completing her MS in Secondary School Administration she
worked as a junior high assistant principal for three years before
moving to Columbia to attend law school where she served as
Managing Editor for the Journal of Dispute Resolution. Kelli
received her Juris Doctor from the University of MO Columbia in
2001. Originally employed by the MO School Boards' Assn as a
staff attorney, Kelli now serves as MSBA's Associate Executive
Director of Board Services, which includes MSBA’s board policy,
legal, training and employment and labor relations departments.
Rick Wessel - Rick is a Principal in the Mercer St. Louis Health
and Benefits Office. As the Sales Leader, primary responsibilities
include client relationships and business development. Rick joined
Mercer in 2010. Prior to Mercer, he worked for Great West from
1980 to 1992, Gallagher Benefit Services from 1992 to 2009 and
CBIZ from 2009 to 2010. Rick received a Bachelor’s Degree in
Business Administration from the University of Minnesota. He is
licensed in numerous states and is a member of the Employee
Benefits Association of St. Louis and the International Foundation
of Employee Benefit Plans. Rick also has a securities registration
and is certified through the Wellness Council of America.
