Math116 ALEKS Course Code & Assessment
Fall 2014
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee
MATH 116 – 003 College Algebra - Fall 2014
Hello,
I hope that you are enjoying your summer and I would like to welcome you to Math 116-003. In
this course, we are using a web-based assessment and learning system called ALEKS:
Assessment and LEarning in Knowledge Spaces. To make sure that you have a successful
semester, it is important that you complete the following two items by Thursday, Sep. 11th,
2014:
 Activate your ALEKS account
 Complete the initial assessment on ALEKS (more about this on page 2)
When registering for ALEKS, you will need two codes: a class code (10 characters) and an
access code (20 characters).
The ALEKS Class Code for Math 116-003 is:
MXF3P – LQXL9
The access code for ALEKS is required and may be purchased at the UW-Milwaukee bookstore,
ISBN # 9780077841447, or online at http://www.aleks.com. An e-book comes with the
purchase of the access code. This program can be used on any computer with Internet access.
(The least expensive option is to purchase ALEKS online and use the e-book.)
If you want a hard copy of the book (the hard copy of the book is not required!), the textbook is:
Miller: College Algebra, 1st Ed. (McGraw-Hill) hard copy book. This package, which includes
the ALEKS access code, can be purchased at the UWM Bookstore.
If you are waiting for financial aid, you can use the following:
Financial Aid Access Code:
83055 – 942C1 – 8F4ED – ED38C
NOTE: This code gives you temporary access to ALEKS for a two-week period, but it does not
add an additional two weeks to your account. Once the code expires, you will be locked out of
your ALEKS account until you purchase a regular Student Access Code. You should purchase
the Student Access Code BEFORE the two weeks expire to prevent interruptions with your
ALEKS account. You do not need to create a new ALEKS account to continue your course;
click on "extend your account" and enter the purchased Student Access Code.

The initial assessment will be given as soon as you register for ALEKS. It must be taken before
you are allowed to start the ALEKS homework. The first ALEKS homework is due on Tuesday,
September 16th by 11:59, so you should complete the initial assessment by Thursday, September
11th in order to give yourself time to complete the homework by the 11th.
Try your best on the initial assessment and all the assessments that you take
on ALEKS. The better you do on the assessments, the fewer homework
problems you will have.
If you have any question about the course or ALEKS, please email me. I look forward to
working with you this semester and helping you succeed in Math 116.
Sincerely,
Suzanne Boyd
