The State Dept. of Aging is providing free generic prescription drugs to low-income, disabled Pennsylvanians (age 18
years and older) who do not have health insurance. Eligible residents may enroll for up to $600 in generic drugs through
the PACE Clearinghouse program) at 1-800-955-0989.
PARTNERSHIP FOR PRESCRIPTION ASSISTANCE:
America’s pharmaceutical companies are working together with doctors, pharmacists, other health care providers and
community groups to make getting medicine easier. Through the Partnership for Prescription Assistance, help may be

Managing Mental Health & Drug & Alcohol Services for HealthChoices’ members in Greene County.
HealthChoices’ members are eligible to receive mental health and drug & alcohol services free of charge.
They can help you find the services you need and get approval for treatment. VBH-PA can help you
schedule appointments and get assistance with transportation for behavioral health services. Please call
the toll free number for Greene County: 1-877-688-5973. Someone will assist you 24 hours a day, 7 days a
week. Please call and talk to a Member Service Representative. HealthChoices’ member rights and
responsibilities are explained in the Member Handbook. If you did not receive yours, please call and request
a copy. If you need special help understanding any of your rights, call the Greene County Recovery and
Resiliency Specialist at 1-888-856-5073. Your do not pay for any services that are part of the
HealthChoices program.
Consumer/Family Satisfaction Surveys:
VBH-PA wants to be sure HealthChoices’ members are satisfied with their services. You may help us by
taking a brief Consumer Family Satisfaction Survey. Call 724-852-5395 and talk to a member of the team.
They will arrange a convenient time and place for you to complete the survey. All information is confidential.
VBH-PA uses suggestions from the surveys to improve services or add new ones. Make you opinion count!
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED:
The Open Arms Drop in Center has a van available for the center to use every Friday to bring people in from out of town
to socialize and participate in classes. Open Arms is a safe, friendly gathering place for socialization and fellowship
among individuals coping with mental health issues. The van is full of gas and ready to go. Volunteer drivers are needed.

GREENE COUNTY WOMEN’S CENTER:

High and low impact aerobics will be held at the 4H Building at the Greene County Fairgrounds every Wednesday and

STEP AEROBICS:

MORNING AEROBICS:
High and low impact aerobics class will be held every Friday Morning from 9 until 10 A.M. in the 4H Building at the

DANCE AEROBICS:
Dancing is combined with traditional callisthenic, cardio, aerobic and strength training to provide an overall workout.
The class will be held on Wednesdays from 6:30 to 7:30 P.M. in the 4H Building at the Fairgrounds. $4.00 per session.

CAR SEAT LOAN PROGRAM:
Community Action Southwest offers a Car Seat Loan Program with 4 types of seats available (infant, convertible,
combination, belt positioning booster and backless booster). Cost is $10 which is refundable when you return the seat in
good condition. Please bring medical card and driver’s license along with your child and specifics on the child’s weight

SMOKING CESSATION: Want to quit smoking? Join the Bee Free Program, a free program to help qualified Greene

T.O.P.S.(TAKING OFF POUNDS SENSIBLY):
Waynesburg Chapter meets at the Rolling Meadows Church of God, 595 Rolling Meadows Road in Wbg. TOPS is for
men, women, teens and children ages 7 and older. The chapter meets every Thursday. Weigh-in is at 6 P.M. and the

SOUP KITCHENS:

Soup Kitchen called “Good Neighbor Supper” is held in the basement of the First Presbyterian Church of Waynesburg

Community Action Southwest’s Even Start program has center activities available daily. There are no income guidelines
however you must have a child under the age of 8. If you are interested in increasing your math & reading skills,
preparing for the GED test at home, preparing for your driver’s license test, help to prepare your child for school or learn

THE COURTS:
Family Faith Ministries operates a youth program called The Courts located at 550 W. George Street in Carmichaels.
Hours: 1st and 3rd Saturday of each month from 7 P.M. until 11 P.M. This program offers young people an opportunity to
socialize in a chaperoned environment. Activities include: basketball, volleyball, pool tables, air hockey, ping pong, foose
ball, tether ball, board games, competitions and music. Snack bar is available. Young people are required to sign in upon

SPAULDING SHELTER SHEEP FARM:
If you are looking for a unique place to take a group from your church, school, nursing home, after school program,
assistance program, recovery program, family outing…..consider a visit to the Spaulding Shelter Sheep Farm located at
556 Dunns Station Rd. in Prosperity, PA 15329. .Located just outside of Ruff Creek on PA Route 221, the farm was
established in 1986 by Joan and John Spaulding. It is their hope that the farm be utilized to benefit any and all residents
of Greene County that would enjoy visiting for recreation, creativity, sharing, relaxation, learning, reflection or creating
unique memories. The farm is home to nearly 100 sheep, a peaceful pond and stream, plenty of berries and vegetables
and acres of fields to explore. It offers a place to get away and enjoy simplicity, thus fostering personal and interpersonal
growth on any level for any group of people. Possibilities include: hayrides, crafts, observing lambs and their moms,
hiking, fishing, picnics, campfires, sledding, retreats, afternoon teas and educating groups about wildlife and gardening.

ALZHEIMER’S DISEASE AND RESEARCH CENTER:
Greene, Washington and Fayette counties will be participating in a special research project with the University of
Pittsburgh, Alzheimer’s Disease and Research Center. They will be seeking participants for the study who must meet the
following criteria: 65 years and older, good vision and hearing (with correction), ability to read, no learning disabilities and
at least a 7th grade education. Participants will be paid $15.00 for their assistance in completing a short testing tool. Be

ANGEL FOOD MINISTRIES:
Lone Pine Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) at 582 Lone Pine Rd in Washington hosts a special food program
called “Angel Food Ministries”. The June food box at the cost of $25.00 included the following items: 2.5 pork spare ribs,
4 lb drumsticks, 4 oz hamburger patties, 3 lb breaded frying chicken, 1 lb fully cooked meat balls, 2 lbs. chicken breast,
15 oz, chicken pot pie soup, 24 oz roasted potatoes with garlic & onion, 16 oz. pasta, 16 oz. rice, 16 oz. baked beans, 16
oz. corn, 20 oz bbq sauce, 12 oz peanut butter, 1 dozen eggs and 1 dessert item. Orders are taken ahead of time and
pre-paid. No personal checks are accepted. Must be cash, money order or a cashiers check. Orders may be mailed to

RYERSON POOL:
Ryerson Station State Park’s swimming pool will be open from 11 A.M. to 7 P.M. May 27 – 29 for Memorial Day
weekend. The pool will be closed May 30th through June 2nd for the lifeguard staff to finish school and attend the required
classes. The pool will reopen June 3rd for the season and will be open 7 day a week. The pool will close August 28th, but

CENTRAL PARK PLAYGROUND DAY CAMP PROGRAM:
2006 Central Park Playground (Waynesburg Borough) will be holding day camp sign-ups on June 8th and 9th at the
playground from 10 A.M. to 1 P.M. The day camp will begin on Monday, June 12 and run Monday through Friday until
August 11th. Hours will be from 9 A.M. to 12:30 P.M. and is open to children ages 5 to 12 years. Any child under the age

SUMMER READING AND MATH (SMARRT) PROGRAM:
Southeastern Greene School District announces a special opportunity for children in their school district to work on their
academic ability to reach grade level proficiency. Reading and math instruction will occur daily, along with Science and
Technology curriculum connections. Students who have completed Kindergarten through Grade 11 are eligible to attend
this academic learning opportunity. Funding is provided through the PA Tutoring Grant at no cost to parents. Dates: June
12th through August 3rd (schools are closed on July 4th). Where: Bobtown Elementary for students who completed
Kindergarten through Grade 5 from 8:45 A.M. to 12:15 P.M.; Mapletown Jr./Sr High School for students who completed
grades 6 through 11 from 8:30 A.M. to noon. Complimentary food/snacks will be available daily at both schools. Bus
transportation is offered daily. Registration forms must be completed and returned to the child’s school sometime during

21st CENTURY COMMUNITY SUMMER CAMPS:
Middle School Students will be able to try one of two new classes to be held at Greene County Career & Technology
Center: 1.) How to Prepare International Foods and 2.) Designing and Manufacturing a Prototype of a Product. These
classes will be held from 9 A.M. to noon Monday through Thursday, June 19 – 29.

The main summer camp program is open to students who completed kindergarten through the 8 th grade last year.
Details vary depending on the school district, but most camps will begin on June 19th and end July 27th with students
attending Monday through Thursday from 9 A.M. until noon. Reading, mathematics, technology and recreation will be
integrated with camp activities and projects that are age appropriate. Special tutoring will be available for students who
did not test high enough in the PA System of State Assessment test. The camp is FREE. Sites: Bobtown Elementary,
Mapletown Junior/Senior High, Carmichaels Elementary, Jefferson-Morgan Elementary, Jefferson –Morgan Middle
School, Waynesburg Central Elementary, Perry Elementary, Margaret Bell Miller Middle School, Graysville Elementary
and West Greene Middle School.

FLENNIKEN LIBRARY:
On June 20th beginning at 6:30 P.M. please come and enjoy the Magic of Reading by Jason Christopher, magician. He
will be telling stories, performing magic tricks, puppetry and comedy in such a way that will encourage children to read.
June 22nd from 12 to 2:30 P.M. will be Read to a Dog Day. Therapy dogs do a great service to humans with disabilities.
So, it is time to return the favor by participating in read to a dog day. Three therapy dogs will be at the library to relax

Summer Reading Program is offered beginning June 27th and will run on the following Tuesdays through August 8 (with
the exception of July 4th). Children from preschool through grade 6 will hear stories, play games, make crafts and enjoy
snacks. Participants who fill out their packet will receive a free t-shirt with the summer reading g program theme of Paws,
Claws, Scales and Tales on it. Pre- school aged children – Kindergarten group will be from 10:30 to 11:30; Kindergarten

FAMILY FUN FAIR:
Primary Care of Mt. Morris is making plans for their 2nd Annual Family Fun Fair. The date has been set for Sat., June
24th from noon until 4 P.M. at the Mt. Morris American Legion. The fair is an effort to bring some good old fashioned fun
back to the community. They are planning to have games, raffles, food and all kinds of different organizations providing

GREENE COUNTY DAIRY CAMP:
Penn State Cooperative Extension Services is hosting a very special one day Dairy Camp, “Udderly Moovelous” Dairy
Factory on Thursday, June 29th. This camp is open to all children ages 8 to 15 and is FREE! Registration is a must and
applications must be in by June 22nd (limit is 40 children). The day will begin at the Greene County Fairgrounds at 8 A.M.
Bus will be boarding at 8:30 A.M. There will be a tour of the Spring House Farm and Store in Eighty Four, PA followed by
lunch at the Spring House. At 12:15 P.M. everyone will board the bus to return to Waynesburg for a tour of the Giant
Eagle. Then all children will return to the Fairgrounds for group activities. The camp will end at 4 P.M. Reminder:
children will be visiting a real working farm and appropriate dress is recommended (raingear, closed shoes, sunscreen,

BLOOD DRIVE:
Southwest Regional Medical Center will be hosting the American Red Cross for a blood drive on June 27th from noon
until 6 P.M. on the 2nd Floor in the Guesman Room.
CENTERVILLE CLINICS, INC SUMMER THERAPEUTIC ACTIVITIES PROGRAM:
This program is intended for children ages 6 to 11 and for adolescents ages 12 to 15 who have emotional problems that
require an intensive level of treatment that is not available in traditional recreational summer camps. It is designed to
provide a short term, socialization program in a supportive environment. The main focus of this program is to provide
social activities, therapeutic groups and supervised leisure time during the unstructured months. Transportation is
provided by County Medical Assistance Transportation. Camp hours are from 9 A.M. to 3 P.M. for two sessions: June 16
to July 14 and July 17 to August 11th. Location for the Greene County program is 300 North Street in Waynesburg.

The M.A.G.I.C. Goals Soccer Camp (children ages 6 to 16 years) will be held in Carmichaels (field behind the

DEPARTMENT OF RECREATION, GREENE COUNTY SUMMER CAMPS:
Day Camp registration will be held on June 16th from 1:00 until 3:00 P.M. at each of the following park locations: Wana
B Park in Carmichaels, Jefferson Township Park in Jefferson, Ryerson Station State Park in Wind Ridge, Mon View Park
in Greensboro, Lions’ Club Park in Waynesburg, Perry Elementary School in Mt. Morris and Bobtown Elementary School
in Bobtown. Children ages 5 to 15 are welcome and 2006 camps will begin on June 19th and end on July 28th. Hours for

CAMP COMPUTER BYTES:
Community Action Southwest will be sponsoring “Adventures in Computer: Camp Computer Bytes” from June 19th – 30th
(Monday through Friday) at 58 E. Greene Street in Waynesburg. There will be two sessions: Children ages 5 to 8 from 9
A.M. to noon; Children ages 9 to 12 from 1 P.M. to 4 P.M. Each student will have their own computer to work on and will
receive a t-shirt to design and create. This summer camp will be a unique experience as students will learn computer

DOG SHOW:
South Hills and Mountaineer Kennel Clubs will be hosting a Dog Show from June 22 nd through June 25th at the Greene

MENTAL HEALTH ADVANCE DIRECTIVES:
This workshop will be held on June 27th and 28th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the Greene County Fairgrounds (Bldg.10,
Lower Level Meeting Room). This two day training will discuss the benefits of completing your personal Mental Health
Advance Directives document. Participants are encouraged to invite their agents to attend. (An agent is a person you
designate to make decisions upon your directions). Each participant will have the opportunity to actually complete their

KARAOKE CONTEST:
Waynesburg Lions Club July 4th Celebration will include a Karaoke Contest to be held on Tuesday, July 4th from 3 P.M.
to 6 P.M. at the Greene County Fairgrounds. There will be three age groups: 10 and under, 11 through 18 and 19 years
and over. This contest is limited to the first 30 persons who call and register (10 per age group). Parents must call and
register for any children under age 15. Cash awards will be $100, $50 and $25 for the top 3 in each age group. Contact
Mr. Ed Hurd at 724-883-3350 to enter. One song (under 4 minutes in length) per performer. Bring your own cd or choose
a song from the available list. The winners will perform in front of the crowd before the beginning of the fireworks.
KINDERGARTEN CLUB 2006:
Community Action Southwest is pleased to announce a fun, educational summer program open to all children entering
kindergarten this fall. Activities include: free play, social interaction, circle time, crafts, school readiness and fine/gross
motor activities, snacks and journal writing. The first session will be a Teddy Bear theme so that parents, children and
teachers can get acquainted. Bring your favorite teddy bear or stuffed animal. The program will run from July 5 th through
July 31st from 9:30 A.M. to 11: 30 A.M. on Mondays and Wednesdays (Carmichaels, Jefferson and Graysville) and
Tuesdays and Thursdays (Bobtown and Central Greene) and Tuesdays Only (Springhill-Freeport and Perry). The
children will make new friends and meet school personnel. All sessions will be conducted by a certified teacher, a
teachers aid plus parent volunteers! Parents will help to plan and facilitate activities. Every child must be accompanied

GREENE COUNTY DAY AT KENNYWOOD AMUSEMENT PARK:
The annual Greene County Day at Kennywood has been set for July 11th. Tickets are being sold at two sites: WANB

all day tickets plus bus fare are $24.00.

CSI CAMP:
Registration has already begun for the second annual Crime Scene Investigation Camp, which will be held at
Waynesburg College from July 23 – 27th. This camp is open to high school juniors, seniors and 2006 graduates and will
accept 60 students. Hands-on training in forensics is the main focus of the camp, yet the camp will also focus on law

RAIN DAY:
The annual Rain Day celebration will take place on July 29th in the downtown Waynesburg area. The all-day festival
includes: live entertainment, food, crafts, games, hot dog eating contest, umbrella decoration contest, Baby Rain Day
Contest and more. Don’t miss the fun!
CAMP LAUGHALOT:
The annual Camp Laughalot program will be held at Central Greene High School consisting of two sessions: July 31 to
August 4 and August 7 to 11 from 8:30 A.M. to 2:30 P.M. Monday through Friday. Lunch, drinks and snacks will be
provided. The cost is $45.00 per week per child (please call regarding ESY and Value Behavioral Health Funding).
Activities: arts & crafts, music & drama, swimming, sports & games and theme days. Presentations by visitors to the
camps such as The Literacy Council, the local police department, Smokey the Bear, the youth ballet and numerous others
are almost a daily treat. The overall camp experience promotes educational, vocational and social development while
boosting self-esteem. The camp focuses on providing new experiences and having fun. Counselors at Camp Laughalot
are mandated to create a physically and emotionally safe, enjoyable and challenging environment for campers. Each staff
member is trained in CPR, First Aid and Crisis Prevention & Intervention. Each staff member is screened with a rigorous
interview and with Act 33/34 clearances to ensure the safety of all the campers. Transportation must be provided by the
family or caregiver or may be available through the county Transportation Program or school system. Registration forms

The county fair is scheduled for August 4th to the 12th. Admission: $8.00 which includes rides and the grandstand.

COAL SHOW:
The 52nd Annual Pennsylvania Bituminous Coal Show in Carmichaels has been set to run from Saturday, August 20th to
Saturday, August 27th. This week long celebration includes: the King Coal Parade, Coal Queen Pageant, a cheerleading
competition, coal exhibits, the State Mine Rescue Contest, a bike-a-thon, carnival, fireworks, antique cars, children’s pet
parade & bicycle parade along with a wide variety of delicious ethnic foods.
50’S FEST & CAR CRUISE:
The 4th annual festival celebrating the 50;s will take place on Saturday, September 9th in the downtown Waynesburg
area. There will be over 300 hot-rods and motorcycles exhibited. WANB Dougie Wilson will be playing the classics on
the courthouse lawn. Activities include: hula hoop and bubble gum blowing contests. For more information please

The 36th Annual Covered Bridge Festival will take place on September 16th and 17th. Contact for the Carmichaels
