** NT ARTS GRANTS PROGRAM OPEN **
The 2010 Arts Grants Program has now opened. The Program is transitional and is designed to
ensure that arts activities can continue to be supported during a period of change before the
introduction of a new Arts Policy next financial year.
Arts Grants 2010 releases an additional category offering up to $5,000. The new category of
Community Grants will support community based arts activities with a strong focus on community
involvement in all stages of the project. Community Grants will operate the same way as the NT
Quick Response Scheme. Applications can be submitted all year round and at least 50% of the total
budget for the activity must come from sources other than Arts NT.
Arts Grants 2010 March Project Round pool includes the extra $100,000 committed by the
Northern Territory Government as part of the 2009 budget.
The application process will be familiar to past applicants. Please note forms have been
modified to increase ease of understanding and use. If you need assistance contact your

Reminder: Arts NT Regional Arts Fund (RAF) - Open
Applications are also open to the Regional Arts Fund (RAF), an Australian Government initiative
managed and delivered in the Northern Territory by Arts NT through the Arts Grants Program. The
Regional Art Fund categories include the Rapid Response Scheme that offers up to $1,500 to
support arts projects that cannot be applied to within the project rounds due to their time critical
nature. Applications can be submitted all year round and notification will be given 15 working days

REMINDER: Regional Arts Australia (RAA): 2010 Regional Arts Australia Volunteer Awards
Nominations open Friday, 19 February 2010 and close Friday, 26 March 2010.
Awards will be presented in two categories: Sustained contribution to the arts and Outstanding
contribution to the arts. The awards will be presented at Junction 2010 – connecting the future, the
RAA national conference to be held in Launceston, Tasmania from 26-29 August 2009. The RAA
Volunteer Awards recognise, reward and encourage regionally-based artists and cultural volunteers
who have made a substantial contribution to the arts in regional communities in Australia. Young
people are particularly encouraged to nominate. The Regional Arts Australia Volunteer Awards
Program is supported by the Australia Council for the Arts, the Australian Government's arts funding

Ausdance skill set for Teaching Dance
This new short course will provide dancers in all areas of dance with the skills to successfully teach
in schools (with supervision), in the community and for recreation and enjoyment. The course
focuses on three areas of learning: Dance Teaching Methods; Safe Dance, and Ethical and Legal
issues and provides a stepping stone to more formal qualifications through the Performing Arts

Performing Arts Training Package – Comments and Feedback
Verve—Knowledge and Skills is managing the development of new competency standards and skill
sets for the dance industry on behalf of Innovation & Business Skills Australia (IBSA) and consulting

recommendations outlined in the discussion paper on draft qualifications and skill sets. For more

Darwin City Council Seeks Exhibition Proposals
Darwin City Council has recently installed a flexible picture railing system outside the Lord Mayor's Office
in the Civic Centre to create a 15 metre "exhibition wall". Proposals are being sought from artists
groups, schools and art organisations for exhibitions for the Wall in 2010. Exhibitions the Darwin City
Council are looking for are those that reflect Council's Strategic Directions and the principles of
community access and inclusion, promotion of cultural diversity and supporting harmony within the
community. There is no payment associated with this opportunity however some incidental expenses

Making Music Being Well 2010
Registrations will open in February 2010
Well, the time has come for all those who love to “make music” to once again join the Making Music
Being Well music train!! This exciting biannual event is a joint initiative between the Australian
Music Therapy Association and Play for Life. The Making Music Being Well phenomenon
celebrates active music making, and just how good it makes us feel. In 2010, Making Music Being

and the 2011 Aboriginal Art Reconciliation Calendar and receive royalty payments. Oxfam shop
FAIR TRADE is Australia’s pre-eminent fair trade importer and retailer of fair trade commodities and
world crafts. Oxfam’s vision is: “A fair world in which people control their own lives, their basic rights
are achieved and the environment is sustained.” Submissions must be original works by the artist
and suitable for commercial reproduction. Cards, gift-wraps and calendars will feature a high
quality, colour-matched print of the selected artwork. Oxfam currently pay artists a royalty of 8% for

Now Open: Artist Expressions of Interest for artsCape 2010

Following the success of the inaugural 2005 event, artsCape 2010, an exhibition of outdoor
environmental sculpture in Byron Bay Australia is proudly opened. Exhibition dates are Sat 26 June
– Sun 11 July 2010. Five international sculptors have confirmed participation in the event. They
include: Bert Flugelman and Greg Johns from Australia, Phil Price from New Zealand, Usama
Alnassar from Syria and Andy Scott from Scotland. These artists will join a small group of Invited

Off The Wall is searching for Australia’s next top artists!!!

Off The Wall is a national competition where ten artists will be selected from applications by a panel
of industry experts. Selected artists will be given the chance to exhibit their work at Melbourne’s
largest annual art fair and enjoy being in the spotlight, gaining attention from curators, galleries,
media and collectors while gaining exposure to over 15,000 art buying public. 75% of selected
artists are picked up by commercial galleries. The selected works are professionally curated and
installed in this feature, dedicated to the promotion of emerging art. Examples of selected artist’s
work appear on our website, and in a full colour catalogue, generously donated by Art Almanac.
Applicants for Art Melbourne must be unrepresented in the state of Victoria, and all mediums and
age groups are eligible. Application Deadline for Art Melbourne is 1/3/10. Event date 22-25 April

This annual art prize competition and poetry award offers cash prizes to the winning artist or poet,
