North Carolina Thermal Imaging School — This course is an advanced, interactive school designed to train firefighters on the
technology, uses, and limitations of thermal imaging cameras. The school will consist of an evening classroom lecture covering thermal
imaging technology, operational terms, uses, limitations, as well as troubleshooting and maintenance of thermal imagers. A large portion
of the school will consist of “hands on” training evolutions designed to present the student with opportunities to learn how to use
thermal imagers on a variety of emergency situations. The School will cover various TIC technologies; using TIC with V.E.S.; large area
search techniques; using TICs for overhaul; recognizing various building components utilizing a TIC; non-fire emergency TIC use; using
TICs with size-up; TIC limitations. There is a $75 fee payable to Cleveland Community College upon acceptance. Please apply online

Spring Firefighter Academy 2014 — The purpose of this Academy is to produce high quality firefighters who will strengthen the
ability of fire protection service in order to provide a higher degree of customer service. A mandatory orientation will be held
January 5 at 2pm. Classes will begin January 6 at 8am and run Monday-Friday and a few Saturdays. A complete schedule will
be provided at the orientation. The Academy will end March 7 with a graduation ceremony. Topics covered will be Firefighter I
and II courses; Hazardous Materials; Rapid Intervention Team Certification; Physical Training; and Live Fire Scenarios.
Candidates must complete an application packet to be accepted into the Academy. There are a limited number of seats and NO
walk-ins will be accepted. A few local fire departments have agreed to allow candidates to be housed at fire stations. A $175
non-refundable fee is required for student supplies including textbooks, uniforms, and other supplies. Also, there is a $1.30 fee

AHA BLS Healthcare Provider (CPR) / Registration Fee: $65

In this classroom-based course, healthcare professionals learn to recognize several life-threatening emergencies, provide CPR to victims of all
ages, use an AED, and relieve choking in a safe, timely and effective manner. Students must arrive at class with the AHA Basic Life Support for
Healthcare Providers Student Text (current edition). The text is available for purchase in the College Bookstore. Students will not be admitted
without the student text! NC Fire/Rescue/EMS personnel are fee exempt for this course. Classes will be held at the Brown Emergency Training
Center located at 2423 Kings Road, Shelby, NC 28152. All classes are 6pm-10pm. Registration fee is $70 after August 15!

Anatomy & Physiology (EMS 3000)
Course begins October 22, 2013 and ends November 21, 2013. Classes meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am-5:30pm
Registration Fee: $180
This course provides a basic study of the structure and function of the human body. Topics include a basic study of the body systems as well as
an introduction to homeostasis, cells, tissues, nutrition, acid-base balance, and electrolytes. 80 hours. This class meets the Anatomy & Physiology
requirement for entry into EMT-P classes as pre or co-requisite.
EMT Basic to Paramedic (must be credentialed as EMT-Basic)
Course begins December 3, 2013 and ends November 5, 2014. Classes meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 9am-5:30pm
Registration Fee: $181.30 (Additional fees will apply to clinical for these classes.)
This course builds upon skills and assessments learned in the EMT-Basic course, and transitions students to be able to provide advanced level care.
Topics include, but are not limited to, anatomy and physiology; advanced airway management; IV therapy and emergency drug therapy; cardiology;
EKG interpretation; and medical and trauma patient assessment. Students will have vast opportunities for hands on experience in the clinical
setting. Student prerequisites: currently certified as EMT-Basic (NC or National Registry); possess a high school diploma or GED; pass an
entrance exam assessing reading and math skills (must be 12-grade level); and Anatomy and Physiology. NC Fire/Rescue/EMS personnel are fee
exempt for registration. Co-requisites: Students must complete a college level Anatomy & Physiology or a Continuing Education Anatomy &
Physiology (EMS 3000) prior to course completion. A course in Anatomy and Physiology (EMS 3000) is offered 10-22-13 to 11-21-2013.
EMT-Basic / 3 Separate Courses

This course introduces basic emergency medical care. Topics include preparatory, airway, patient assessment, medical emergencies, trauma,
infants and children, and operations. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to achieve North
Carolina State or National Registry EMT-Basic certification. Students must complete a reading placement test the first night of class. Student
prerequisites: High school diploma or GED or at least 17 years of age (and attending high school). If student is under 18 years of age, he/she
must provide a Cleveland Community College Dual Enrollment form stating the high school he/she is attending and courses taken.
International Trauma Life Support (ITLS Advanced) /
Registration Fee: $70 / Card Fee: $20
Course Date: October 12, 2013 (Saturday) 9am-5:30pm.
ITLS is accepted internationally as the standard training course for prehospital trauma care. It's used as a state-of-the-art continuing education course —
and as an essential curriculum in many paramedic, EMT and first-responder training programs. ITLS courses combine classroom learning and hands-on skill
stations. Scenario assessment stations enable you to put your learning to work in simulated trauma situations. ITLS courses are designed, managed and
delivered by course directors, coordinators and instructors experienced in EMS, pre-hospital care and the ITLS approach.
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)

Course begins November 9, 2013 and ends November 10, 2013 (Saturday/Sunday) from 9am-5:30pm
ACLS is an advanced, instructor-led classroom course that highlights the importance of team dynamics and communication, systems of care and immediate
post-cardiac-arrest care. It also covers airway management and related pharmacology. In this course, skills are taught in large, group sessions and small,
group learning and testing stations where case-based scenarios are presented. Students must come to class with ACLS Student Manual.
Pediatric- ITLS

Course date is December 13, 2013 (Friday) from 9am-5:30pm.
ITLS Pediatric continues the training of the Basic and Advanced courses with an emphasis on understanding and responding to trauma in children. The
eight-hour course teaches the proper assessment, stabilization and packaging of pediatric trauma patients. It also highlights techniques for communicating
with young patients and their parents. Hands-on stations include:
