The lesson plan will be back in its usual format, next week.
Wednesday-Test on Literary terms
Thursday-ELA test on verbs. SS test on the 8 Government terms.
Weekending: 2014-09-26
Davis/ 6ELA, 6RDG, & 6SS
DATE Environmental Education: Recycling (9/22-10/17), Aquaponics (11/17-12/19), Garden
(2/9-3/13), Chickens (4/27-5/22)
DATE 6th grade environmental curriculum: Latin America, Canada, Europe, Australia, and
Oceania, with each student labeling a world map to indicate areas of volcanic activity and
earthquake zones in these regions.
Technology Week’s Activities:
• Multimedia presentation submitted via Google docs. Smartboard unit pre-tests using clickers
(Classroom Student Response System receivers), if possible.
• Second Steps (Character Building) Week’s Activities
• Ms. Brock & Ms. Hudson will provide the Middle School team RDG/ELA/SS teachers with
character-building videos and a Teacher Resource packet.

Unit Theme/Essential Question(s): “Coming of Age: 1. How have my experiences (physically,
mentally, emotionally, and socially) affected my life? 2. How do
my decisions, whether a privilege or responsibility, affect who I am?”
Essential Question: How does an author or speaker use text structure and textual evidence to
enhance the experience of the reader/listener?
Activating Strategy: Identify the following nouns or pronouns.
What do you already know about what good readers do? What is a verb?
Teaching Strategy: “Eleven”, by Sandra Cisneros-begin in class and complete for homework.
Review of story elements: imagery, character, plot, setting, conflict, and theme for Wednesday’s
test. Verbs (page 1) for Thursday’s test on verbs (pages 1-4).
Summarizing Strategy: PopQuiz/ TicketOutDoor re: verbs, or one of the 7 “What Do Good
Readers Do?” strategies.
ELA/RDG Tutoring-Fridays 3:30pm- 5pm. Pick-up in rear parking lot.
ELA Homework due Tuesday (9/23)
#1) Parent signature on 9/18 Pronouns #2 test.
#2) Complete reading of “Eleven”, by Sandra Cisneros, if not completed in class. [Posted on ELA
Google drive]
#3) Complete pages 2-3 of “Verbs Mini-Lessons” [Posted on ELA Google drive]. Review class
notes nd any online resources for Thursday’s test.
#4) Use class notes, Story Elements Rap Video, and any online resources to review: imagery,
character, plot, setting, conflict, and theme in both Hatchet and “Eleven” for Wednesday’s test.
#5) Organize binder for Friday’s Binder-Portfolio Check
