The Position Mandate Reporting to the Vice President / General Manager (Canada), Turner Construction requires an astute Estimating Manager with extensive experience in preconstruction planning related to Commercial Building renovations, tenant improvements and general construction. Based from Turner’s Downtown Toronto Offices the Estimating Manager will concurrently report to the Regional VPPreconstruction Services who is located in Chicago at Turner’s U.S. Regional Headquarters and the VP/GM Canada. Page 1 / 3 Estimating Manager - Responsibilities Entail: Coordinating appropriate resources across the Turner organization in conjunction with the Regional VP Preconstruction Services based in Chicago while concurrently communicating with the VP / GM (Canada), thus ensuring continuity with respect to all on-going projects Managing, training and developing the Canadian comprised of various Estimating Engineers and/or Virtual Design Engineers - coaching, mentoring, guiding all departmental staff (as assigned), including ongoing feedback and Annual Performance Reviews - managing the process of reviewing drawings, specifications and all other construction documents Responsible for the accuracy and timeliness of all work estimates and related projects and assignments within the Estimating Department - complete knowledge of estimating documents, providing accurate qualitative analysis of required documents with respect to timelines and project and RFP Strict adherence to matters of Health & Safety, Quality Assurance, Quality Control, as well as, adhering to Turner’s ethical and compliance requirements Ensuring that Senior Management are aware of any design-related challenges, issues or concerns, as well as, maintaining the integrity and “completeness of all requisite documentation” and other potential risks Overall responsibility for developing lump sum bids for Management approval, developing and maintaining relationships with clients, architects, engineers and subcontractors, as well as, providing market research information for upcoming projects and clients Overseeing the development of General Conditions, Project & Construction requirements, estimating and reviewing these with Senior Management Managing and overseeing the value engineering process during preconstruction, as well as, collaborating with Purchasing in evaluating and analyzing subcontractor proposals Managing the reimbursement of estimating staff as they pertain to General & Administrative / overhead costs, as well as maintaining historical data and developing cost trends When required, may perform the duties of a Senior Estimating Engineer while contributing to ongoing business priorities with respect to new opportunities, special projects and/or estimates related to generating revenue Requirements & Qualifications Our client seeks a capable, experienced Estimating Professional with a minimum of 10 years related construction and/or renovation estimating experience. Educational requirements for this position may encompass: a Bachelors Degree in Engineering, perhaps some Professional Accreditation in Construction Management, Building Construction, Renovations, and/or an Architectural Technology Diploma in Construction Management. It may be advantageous if candidates had some Management or Supervisory leadership experience. Additional experience in project engineering, field supervision and/or purchasing might be beneficial. Knowledge of building construction, materials, systems, market conditions, subcontractors and the trades is inherent to the position. Conceptual ability to work with minimum information and quickly develop an understanding of the Owner/Architect requirements is essential together with creative, innovative and efficient project management practices are also essential. A contemporary Leader must have excellent communication abilities, computer skills and familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite programs and the ability to work with Turner’s proprietary estimating software. Page 2 / 3 Condition(s) of Employment / Physical Demands / Work Environment The Estimating Manager will occasionally be presented with various physical challenges when visiting or conducting site assessments for example, climbing permanent and temporary stairs, use of construction personnel hoists, climbing ladders, negotiating work areas under construction, as well as, use of various tools or controls. Physical demands may include occasional standing, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, etc. Additionally, the individual must be able to lift and / or move up to 75lbs. Specific vision requirements consist of: close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, as well as, the ability to adjust focus. While performing regular duties, the Estimating Manager will regularly work on-site at the construction worksite where they may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, high precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, outside weather conditions and exposure to electrical equipment / panels. The noise in these work environments is usually moderate to very loud.
