1. Subscription Databases
The following databases can be accessed from the ‘Databases’ link on the e-Library
homepage.
AMED (Allied and Complementary Medicine)
A unique bibliographic database, covering a selection of journal in complementary medicine,
palliative care, and several professions allied to medicine. Coverage 1985 - current. Access is
available to NHS affiliated staff and students from all sectors.

Biomedical Reference Comprehensive Collection
Biomedical Reference Collection: Comprehensive provides doctors, research scientists,
students, clinical specialists and managers with access to nearly 900 full text journals,
including full text for more than 850 peer-reviewed publications, covering such disciplines as
clinical medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the
preclinical sciences. When this citation database is viewed via EBSCOhost there is the ability
to link to full text for articles contained within the Biomedical Reference Collection:
Comprehensive database.

CINAHL
The Cumulative Index to Nursing & Allied Health (CINAHL) database provides authoritative
coverage of the literature related to nursing and allied health. Coverage: 1982 - current.
Access is available to NHS affiliated staff and students from all sectors.

Embase
A major biomedical and pharmaceutical database covering the following fields: drug
research, pharmacology, pharmaceutics, toxicology, clinical and experimental human
medicine, health policy and management, public health, occupational health, environmental
health, drug dependence and abuse, psychiatry, forensic medicine, and biomedical
engineering/instrumentation. Widely used biomedical and pharmaceutical databases because
of its currency and in-depth indexing. Coverage: 1980 - current. Access is available to NHS
affiliated staff and students from all sectors.

Medline
MEDLINE is the U.S. National Library of Medicine's (NLM) premier bibliographic database
covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care
system, and the preclinical sciences. Coverage: 1966 - current. Access is available to NHS
affiliated staff and students from all sectors.

Nursing and Allied Health Comprehensive Collection
Nursing & Allied Health Collection: Comprehensive is a valuable resource for nursing and
allied health professionals, students, educators and researchers. This database contains nearly
400 full text journals covering the areas of nursing, biomedicine, health sciences, consumer
health and allied health disciplines.
Use ATHENS username and password.
Science Direct
Search across 1,600 fulltext journals including medical neuroscience, life sciences, and
psychology collections.
Your old Science Direct password will continue to work but for simplicity we advise you to
apply for an ATHENS password.
ZETOC
ZETOC provides access to the British Library's Electronic Table of Contents of current
journals and conference proceedings.

2. Free Databases
CAM on PubMed
National Center for Complementary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM) and National
Library of Medicine (NLM) have partnered to create CAM on PubMed, a subset of NLM's
PubMed. PubMed provides access to citations from the MEDLINE database and additional
life science journals. It also includes links to many full-text articles at journal Web sites and
other related Web resources.
Combined Health Information Database
Composed of 16 databases in areas of interest like cancer and Alzheimer's disease but also in
hard-to-find specialities like skin disease, complementary medicine, deafness, oral health,
weight control, and more. This database is produced by the US National Institutes of Health
(NIH).

Australasian Journal of Podiatric Medicine

The Australasian Journal of Podiatric Medicine (AJPM) is the official publication of the
Australasian Podiatry Council. It aims to provide up to date clinical and scientific knowledge
pertaining to the practice of podiatry, by publishing peer-reviewed articles related to the
diseases and conditions of the foot and lower extremity, case reports, editorials, letters and
book reviews. The website provides abstracts of articles published since 1997 (in PDF format,
requiring Adobe Acrobat Reader), with a form to request a free copy of an article by email or
in hardcopy.
Institute of Chiropodists & Podiatrists

The Institute of Chiropodists and Podiatrists aims to serve the profession of chiropody, with
members including state registered and non-state registered chiropodists. Members undertake
to adhere to a strict code of professional conduct. The Institute also maintains a watch on
related proposed legislation. The website provides information on the Institute, training and
chiropody.
National Electronic Library for Health: Podiatry Portal

The National electronic Library for Health (NeLH) provides NHS health care professionals
and the public with knowledge to support health care related decisions. This site provides
links to resources relevant to podiatrists, including frameworks and guidelines, evidence

Podiatric Biomechanics - Lecture Notes

They support a course in podiatric biomechanics, and cover topics including basics and

This site provides an archive of the physio mailing list provided by JISCmail, with messages
on issues relating to podiatry and foot conditions. Messages can be browsed by date or

Podiatry Network is a US-based patient information site, providing information on foot health
and podiatry. It covers common disorders and provides general articles, an 'Ask the Doctor'

Podiatry Pages is a UK Internet resource for finding a state registered chiropodist or
podiatrist. Listed practitioners are registered with the Council of Professions Supplementary
to Medicine (CPSM). It can be browsed by country, county, area and postcode. Information is
provided for each registered podiatrist, including address, opening hours, directions, general
information and a link to a map. The site also provides links to related resources.
Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists

The Society of Chiropodists and Podiatrists (SCP) is the UK Professional Body and Trade
Union for registered podiatrists. It monitors standards of undergraduate education and
provides opportunities for continuing professional development. The Feet for Life website
provides information about foot health, a 'Find a Podiatrist' facility, news and developments
in podiatry and careers information. Additional features are accessible only to members.
