Summary
A single-stage BJT amplifier was designed, developed, and tested. The amplifi er met all
specifications except input resistance. Seven hours and $1.35 were spent on the project .
(The summary is exactly that — a summary, primarily for managers. It should not extend onto
the second page.)
Design
A Q-point of 3 V and 5 mA was selected. The BJT was biased in the usual fashion [1].
The transistor specifications were obtained from [2]. An analysis of the small-signal equivalent
circuit of the amplifier revealed that the midband gain would be only 30 dB, so the bias circuit
was redesigned to increase ...
(The design process is explained in sufficient detail such that any engineer working in the
same field will be able to understand what was done and duplicate the work).
... A schematic diagram of the amplifier design that was tested in the laboratory is shown in
Fig. 1.

microfarads.
Testing
The amplifier was constructed on a protoboard. The voltage gain was me asured with a
network analyzer; a plot of the measured gain is shown in Fig. 2. The input resistance was
measured in the ...
(The Testing section describes the testing procedure in sufficient detail for another
electrical engineer or technician to duplicate the work.)
A photograph of the experimental configuration is shown in Attachment 1. The measured
performance of the amplifier is summarized in Table 1.
