Sleep problems
Many people sometimes have difficulty sleeping, A sleep disorder is medical disorder for
the sleep pattern of person . Some sleep disorder is serious enough to interfere with
normal physical mental and emotional functioning,
Sleeping problems are more common among women, the elderly, smokers and alcoholics.
With in theses board categories sleeping disorder usually takes one or more the following
forms;
1. Difficulty falling asleep
2. Sleeping lightly and restlessly
3. Waking early and being unable to get back to sleep 1
Attest commonly ordered from some sleep disorders, for the standard test the patient
comes to a sleep lab in the early evening and over the next 1- 2 hours is introduced to the
setting. The sleep lab may be in a hospital, a free standing medical office or in a hotel 2
Sleep disorders are generally classified in to on of the three categories
1. Lack of sleep
2. Disturbed sleep
3. Excessive sleep
Sleep problems cause more than just sleepiness , lack of quality sleep can cause accidents
, affect your relationships , health , and mental prowess , and make people feel generally
disconnected from the world , there for getting good night sleep is essential for feeling
refreshed and alert during the day .
Here is what we notice in our latest visit to Montfort hospital, we had a chance to have a
tour in side an the area surrounding the sleeping lab,3

Excessive noise is becoming a significant problem for intensive care units ,sound
absorbing treatment is relatively effective noise reduction strategy , whereas
sound masking appears to be the most effective technique for improving sleep , 4

raising the risk of medical errors and hindering efforts to modernize hospital
with speech recognition system ,
Some studies even indicate that excessive noise can slow the pace of healing and
contribute to stress and burnout among hospital workers.5

2. Sleep disruption and awakening
3. Decreased rate of wound healing
4. Higher incidence of re-hospitalization
