Dear Students and Parents,
September 9, 2015
The Fall Session for Middle and High School after-school activities will begin on Monday, September 14. Please return this letter to the
activity office room 122 or to Ms. Christina Chari, our school secretary located in the foyer by Friday, September 11. Fall Activities will end
on November 25. Please note that we do have after school busing for students involved in activities. Be aware that in order for an activity to
take place there must be enough student interest. Students have two weeks to decide to participate in after-school activities. After two weeks
students are no longer allowed to add activities and must wait for the next session.
MONDAY
____ 1. Middle School Soccer (Practice: 3:05–4:30 Mr. Papapetrou and Mr. Morales) Come out and improve your soccer skills and play
games on island with other private schools. We will be entering a private schools tournament for certain ages and we will be looking to traveling abroad to a
CEESA Tournament if there is enough interest. The tournament will take place in May 2016.
____ 2.Middle School Girls Basketball (3:05-4:00 Covered Area Ms. Papageorgiou) Come and improve your basketball skills and get some
good physical fitness. There may also be opportunities to play some games with other schools depending on the sign-ups. There is a CEESA MS Girls
Basketball Tournament that is being organized in March 2016. We may be able to attend if there is enough interest.
____ 3. CEESA High School Girls Basketball (3:05-4:00 Covered Area Mr. Papasolomou) Come and improve your basketball skills and get
some good physical fitness. AISC will be hosting the CEESA High School Girls Basketball Tournament during the winter months. The date will be
determined soon. We will be hosting CEESA Schools and we look forward to this event. Mr. Papasolomou will be training the girls and getting them
prepared for this tournament.
____ 4. Middle School Literary Writing Group for Students in the ELL Program Only** (3:05-4:00 PM Meet in Room 201Ms. Dora
Zessimopoulos) Students will receive guidance/support skills in English to improve their homework, writing and organizational skills. Please see Ms. Dora.
____ 5. Middle School CEESA Cultural Arts Festival 2016 (3:05-4:00 Art Room with Ms. Coles) Hosted by The Anglo American School in Sofia
Bulgaria This afternoon activity will lead to a weekend trip on May 12th - 15th 2016 to Sofia, Bulgaria. The theme of the Cultural Arts Festival for 2016 is "NATURE IN
CULTURE”. In preparation for the festival the participants are to explore how nature is reflected in traditional crafts (e.g. pottery, clothes, carpets, mosaics, fabrics, glass ....).
Students are to explore what meaning nature has in their culture and how their cultures view nature and its reflection in applied arts. Participants will produce a personal coat of
arms on a stone plate using the natural elements they have designated in the crafts of their culture (geometric, flower, plant, animal motifs). The plates will then become part of a
mosaic which will be used to decorate a deaf school in Sofia.Maximum of ten students can go to the trip so, if necessary, selection criteria will be applied to determine the trip
participants.
____ 6. Middle School Harry Potter Club (With grades 4-5. 3:05-4:00 in Grade 5 Room with Mr. Pantelis) Harry Potter Club is the place
to be on Monday afternoons! Come and get to know and experience the magic world of Harry Potter...who knows we might even play a Quidditch game or
two!
TUESDAY
____ 7. Middle School Literary Author Greek Club for Native Greek Speakers (Meet in Room 202 from 3:05-4:00 Ms. Maria
Charalambous)
Students will be practicing their writing skills as well as reading comprehension skills. Students will also be doing enrichment activities.
Join the club and improve your writing skills as well as writing short stories, poems and other writings .
Or ____ Middle School Greek for Foreign Speakers (Meet in Room 202 from 3:05-4:00 Ms. Maria Charalambous) This club is for foreign
students who would like to learn and/or enrich their Greek language skills in order to be able to communicate while living in Cyprus!
Please note that only one of the above clubs will take place according to student interest.
____ 8. Middle and High School Drama Club (3:05-4:00 Meet in Theatre with Mr. Thadd)
During the first session of after school drama, students will be involved in aspects of technical theatre. (Set design/construction, script analysis, prop
collection and costume/makeup design)
During the second session, students will audition for parts in the final production and be involved with all rehearsals and performances.
____ 9. High School Model United Nations Club (3:05-4:00 Meet in Room 112 with Ms. Houston)
Learn about the function of the United Nations, its role in the world, how to write solutions and debate world issues. Students who are interested should
contact Ms. Houston. If there is enough student interest, we will be sending a delegation to a MUN Conference locally and abroad.
____ 10. Middle and High School Pilates (Meet in Room 214 3:05-4:00 Ms. Adamou) Pilates is a form of exercise designed by Joseph Pilates to
strengthen the human mind and body. Breathing techniques are used to facilitate blood circulation. Pilates aims to strengthen the core (the powerhouse) using intense focus,
control, flow of movement and precision. According to Joseph Pilates strengthening the powerhouse is the key to general control of the body. The after school activities will
offer a blend of strength and flexibility training with a focus on abdominal strengthening.
____ 11. Middle and High School Polymer Clay Club (Meet in Room 204 from 3:05-4:00 Ms. Loizidou) This craft is easy to learn and can
be enjoyed by all ages with the proper guidance. Start out small and with basic supplies and work your way up from there. Cost of 10 euros to purchase clay.
____ 12. Middle and High School Computer Programming Club (3:05-4:00 Meet in Room 112 Mr. Roussis)
While in this club you will learn how to develop a computer game using a programming language of your choice. If you are in Middle School to grade 9 you
may choose to create games using Alice, Scratch or Microsoft’s Kodu and if you are in grade 10 to 12 you may choose GameMaker or Microsoft’s XNA.
And who knows... maybe we can compete as a team in a pancyprian prestigious school competition!
WEDNESDAY
____ 13. AISC All School Choir (Practice: 2:00-3:00 Music Room with Ms. Jarrold)
Students will be performing throughout the year. If you have any questions please see Ms. Jarrold in the music room.
____ 14. AISC All School Band (Practice: Wednesday from 3:00-4:00 Music Room with Ms. Jarrold)
All students that are part of the instrumental program are expected to participate in the band. Students will be performing throughout the year. If you have
any questionsplease see Ms. Jarrold in the music room.
____ 15. Competitive Swimming Grades 6-9 (Morning Practices: 7:00-8:00 am and/or Fridays with Ms. Papanastasiou & Mr. Papapetrou)
Join the swim team and have an opportunity to compete in an on-island competition. The Grammar School annually holds a swimming competition in
October. The practices will take place at AISC until further instructions from the coaches .
____ 16. Boys High School Soccer (Practice: 2:00 – 3:30 with Mr. Papasolomou)
Join to improve your soccer skills, and play games on island. We will also be looking into organizing our third 7 a side tournament later in the year with
other private schools. There may also be an opportunity to travel to a CEESA Soccer Tournament this year. Further information will be
forthcoming soon.
____ 17. Middle School Boys and Girls Tennis (Practice: 2:00 – 3:00 with Mr. Feutz)
Come out and improve your tennis skills. Join Mr. Feutz every Wednesday.
____ 18. Middle and High School Wing Chun Kung Fu Club (Practice 2:00-3:00 with Mr. Vasilios) Through Wing Chun Kung Fu, one can achieve
clarity of mind, peace, increased levels of energy and focus, correct posture. More known, because of Grand Master Yip Man who taught Bruce Lee, among
many others, characterized by its simplicity or ‘economy of motion’ as it is known, one of Wing Chun’s main mathematical principles. Please note that
there is a fee for this activity of 50 euros for the 10 weeks. Sifu Vassilios

____ 19. Middle and High School Yearbook (Meet in the computer lab 109 from 3:05-4:00 with Ms. Kamps)
If you love to capture memories, take cool photos, design on a computer, and express yourself through visual projects, then you should definitely think about working on the
AISC Yearbook this year. Students will study photography, layout and design, and interviewing strategies, as well as learn the nitty-gritty details of production. We’re looking
for students who are self-motivated, cooperative, responsible, and who love to work. Creativity is a +PLUS!! And everyone who commits to this exciting year-long project will
receive a FREE yearbook! Who knows … there may even be a few pizza parties in the schedule!
____ 20. Duke of Edinburgh Award-The International Award Bronze Award candidates (Meet in Room 203 from3:05-4:00 Mr. Jim Moore)
This club is for students interested in participating in a program where they want to challenge themselves in the areas of Creativity, Service and physical activities. You set your
own goals and be rewarded for them. See Mr. Jim Moore if you need more information. Please note that there is a fee for this activity.
____ 21. Middle and High School Yoga (Meet in the covered area from 3:05-4:00 with Ms. Aristea)
Yoga for everyone where we will learn the basics of yoga in a warm, welcoming environment, where the instructor will teach the fundamentals of yoga in a
way that is safe and easy to understand. This class is geared towards beginners but is also a great way for existing students to practice yoga fundamentals.
____ 22. Middle and High School Numeracy Workshop (Meet in Room 120 with Mr. Nat 3:05-4:00)
We are pleased to announce the first AISC After-school Numeracy Workshop. This workshop will be offered to students in grades 8-10 on Thursdays during
Session 1 of our After-school Program. This is an opportunity for students to gain confidence and competence in a range of math skills, which are
foundational to success in Algebra and beyond.
____ 23.Observational drawing for Middle School, High School, AD and IB (3:05-4:00 Art Room with Ms. Coles)
Observational drawing is an integral component of Art courses. Drawing is the core method of researching, investigating, developing and communicating
ideas. While it is accepted that there are many wondrous types of drawings – and that non-representational drawing methods have an important role in
student Art projects – it is usually advantageous to demonstrate competent, realistic observational drawing skills.
This afternoon activity aims to help students to develop their observational drawing skills and it is predominantly for Art students or students who are
intending to take the subject as an elective.
____ 24. AISC Senior Choir (Practice: 4:30-6:00 Music Room Ms. Jarrold)
Students will be performing throughout the year. If you have any questions please see Ms. Jarrold in the music room.
____ 25. Middle and High School Command and Conquer (3:05-4:00 in Room 108 Mr. Roussis)
A Strategy video game that emphasizes skillful thinking and planning to achieve victory. The game focuses on strategy and tactics.
FRIDAY
____ 26. Competitive Swimming Grades 6-9 (Morning Practices: Friday, 7:00-8:00 am and/or Wednesdays with Ms. Papanastasiou & Mr. Papapetrou)
Join the swim team and have an opportunity to compete in an on-island competition. The Grammar School annually holds a swimming competition at the end
of October. The practices will take place at AISC until further instructions from the coaches.
____ 27. MS and HS Boys Basketball (Practice: 3:05-4:00 Mr. Papasolomou)
Come out for basketball and improve your skills. We will be playing with other private schools on-island and if there is not enough interest for a traveling
team, there may be an opportunity to compete in a CEESA Tournament in December 2014
____ 28. HS Boys and Girls Tennis (Practice: 3:05 – 4:00 Ms. Shockey)
Come and improve your tennis skills with Ms. Shockey. There is a CEESA tournament taking place in May 2016 for interested students.
Please note that Middle and High School Student Councils will be
meeting on Fridays 3:05-4:00pm
The National Honor Society will be meeting once every two weeks during day 10 at lunch time in the theater. Students should be bring
their lunch with them.
