Guidance Announcements

Barr Reeve High school is now using e-Transcripts, a quick easy way for you to send your
transcript to the location of your choice. To create your e-Transcript account, please visit the
Guidance page on the Barr Reeve website at www.barr.k12.in.us. This is how colleges prefer to
receive your high school transcript.

The Community Learning Center of Martin County in hosting a SAT Preparation Workshop for
college-bound high school students. These classes are scheduled for Wednesdays, Oct 5-Oct 26
from 7-9pm. Cost is $25. Please contact Kris at 812-295-2674 for more information.

CONNECTIONS is now accepting referrals for Jubilee Christmas. If you have someone you know
who may benefit from a little help with the cost of presents for children over Christmas please
don’t hesitate to refer them. Families must be referred by either a school or church. You must
live in Daviess County to participate. To be referred, please contact Mrs. Sward at 486-3265.

The University of Indianapolis, Trine University, and Marian University have sent scholarship
information for interested students. To see the scholarship pamphlets for these schools, please
visit the guidance office.

Indiana University scholarship deadline is November 1, 2011. Be sure to have all of your
scholarship information completed before this date in order to receive full consideration for any
merit based scholarships. Most colleges will have similar early deadlines. It is your responsibility
to know any deadlines required by the school you are interested in attending.

Applications for Fall 2012 nursing classes at Vincennes University Jasper Campus will be
accepted beginning Monday, October 3, 2011. Selection is competitive in nature because of the
high number of applicants, so apply early!


Ball State University offers four-year degrees in art history, ceramics, drawing, electronic art and
animation, glass, metals/jewelry design, painting, photography, printmaking, sculpture, visual
communication (graphic design), and a K-12 teaching major in visual arts. Students get to work
with artists, historians, and educators from their first day of classes as part of one of the most
exciting art programs in the Midwest.

Vincennes University offers a Mining Degree. Check out this field with excellent salary and job
opportunities close to home!
College Preview Days
The University of St. Francis will host a Campus Visit Day on Saturday, October 8th and a Health Careers
Day on Nov. 12th. To register visit sf.edu/visit.
Ball State University Art Department will be hosting its annual Open House and Portfolio Review on
Saturday, February 18, 2012. For registration information go to: www.bsu.edu/art/openhouse.
Indiana State University is offering Audition/Scholarships dates for music November 7, January 23,
February 10, February 11, and February 20. ISU is also hosting Music Career Days for all college-bound
music students on Monday, November 7th and Friday, February 10th. For more information, please visit

Indiana State University: ISU has scheduled Sycamore Preview Days for October 10, November 11,

University of Southern Indiana: USI will be hosting Southern Hospitality Days on numerous dates this
fall and next spring. The dates are: October 15, October 29, November 12, January 28, February 18,

Vincennes University: VU will be hosting PreVU days on October 21, October 22, November 18 or

Oakland City University: OCU will be holding Focus days on their main campus for prospective students

Indiana University: IU offers Discover IU days Monday through Friday most week days of the year and
on many Saturdays. Call (812) 855-0661 to schedule an appointment.
Rose-Hulman: Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology offers individual visit days throughout the week. To
schedule a visit is best to request the date you wish to attend two weeks ahead of time. You can
register online or call 800-248-7448.
University of Evansville will be hosting Open Houses on October 15, November 5, January 16, March 17,

Purdue University: Purdue will host Fall Preview Days on October 14th, 21st, 27th, 28th, and Nov. 7th. To

Purdue University: The Purdue University Women in Engineering Program invites you to attend a FREE
daylong engineering series for high school seniors called Seniors Exploring Engineering at Purdue
Monday, October 17, 2011 from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. This great opportunity will be taking place at
Purdue University in West Lafayette, IN. For further details including the day’s agenda and online

University of Indianapolis: U of I has offered a special visit day for all high school students Saturday,
October 29. To schedule your visit please visit admissions.uindy.edu/visit.
Marion University: Marion University will be hosting Nursing Encounter Day November 18th and April
13th. Register for this event by visiting www.marian.edu.
ITT Technical Institute: ITT Tech will be hosting an Open House for Seniors on Saturday, October 15,
10am-1pm at the school location, 10999 Stahl Road, Newburgh, IN.
Trine University: Trine University will be hosting visit days November 5, December 3, January 28,
February 20, March 17 and 24, and April 27. For more info visit trine.edu/visit.
Students are allowed two days of college visitations during their senior year. It is the responsibility of
the student/parent to set up an individual college visit. To do so, you should contact the Admissions
Office at the particular university at least 2 weeks prior to the date you would like to visit. Students
must have proper paperwork (2 forms) on file in the guidance office for the absence to be excused and
not count as an absence.

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Scholarship

Criteria:
Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply. Applicants
do not need to be related to a member of the Elks. Males and females compete
separately and are judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. The Bicknell
Elks Lodge #1421 accepts applications from Washington, Washington Catholic, BarrReeve, Loogootee, and North Knox High Schools. There are many different awards
within this scholarship including national, state and local. By filling out this application you
will be entered for any local or state level awards. Students must apply online at
