Internship Program
Brief Description Of Activity
WRNN-TV’s internships are structured to teach young adults the skills
needed to help obtain a position in the broadcast industry. Participants in
WRNN internships are community members or college juniors and seniors
who receive college credit for their time spent at the station. WRNN
accepts interns in all departments—News, HR, Finance, Traffic, Operations,
Graphics, Production, Broadcast Engineering—throughout the year,
accommodating both local college students primarily during the spring and
fall semesters and area residents attending out-of-state colleges during
winter and summer breaks.
During the reporting period, WRNN hosted a total of (22) interns as follows:

WRNN participated in the NYC Summer Youth Employment Program
(SYEP) by hiring (2) employees; One employee worked within the
Operations Department; the other employee worked in the Traffic
Department.
The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City
youth between the ages of 14 and 24 with summer employment and
educational opportunities. Participants work in a variety of entry-level jobs at
government agencies, hospitals, summer camps, nonprofits, small
businesses, law firms, museums, sports enterprises, and retail
organizations.
The Summer Youth Employment Program strives to:
 Emphasize real-world labor expectations
 Increase awareness of services offered by local community-based
organizations
 Provide opportunities for career instruction, financial literacy
training, academic improvement, and social growth

information on RNN and gave a tour of the television studio. All participants
were provided with information on the internship program.

Training Program
A number of WRNN staff expressed interest in upper-level positions; they
were cross trained in those positions. Cross training is designed to allow
employees to gain skills that could qualify them for promotion within our
organization, or general advancement in the broadcasting industry:
During this reporting period, a total of (6) employees participated in our
cross-training program, as follows:
• 1 broadcast engineer trained to become technical operations manager
• 1 tape operator trained to become an audio operator/director
• 1 graphic designer trained to become supervisor of Graphics
• 1 master control operator master control supervisor
• 1 anchor trained to become senior political correspondent
• 1 director trained to become senior director
