2014 ANTIGONE JOURNAL ASSIGNMENT Journal Assignment During class, we will read the play. At home, you will analyze the play by doing the following. For each scene you will: 1. Point of View Reaction Summary: Write a summary response for each scene from a character's point of view. The character whose perspective you choose to write from must be in the act you are writing about. The character's personality should be present in voice, reaction, thought, prediction, and analysis. All of the main points in each scene must be present in the act summary. The point value for the summary will vary act to act, since some acts are much longer than others. 2. Literary Vocabulary: Document 10 examples of figurative language or literary devices from the play. You will write the context, the source, and a brief explanation of how it embodies the device. You may not use allusion for this activity. Example: Metaphor – Antigone: My love is a red, red rose (page 23). Compares love to a rose. Quotes: Write the two most important quotations/ quotations of interest from each scene. After each quote you will write at least one paragraph for each quote explaining why that quote is the most important/ of interest. 4. Themes: After each scene write a theme statement that shows the primary lesson presented in that scene.
