Dear Parents/Guardian, For the next couple of weeks in our Science block we will be discussing different weather storms and the instruments used to predict and measure certain weather habits. Your child will learn six different weather instruments and three types of storms. I encourage you to ask your child what he or she learned about in Science today. Some questions you may ask your child are: “Did you learn what instrument measures: the wind speed, the direction of the wind, the temperature outside, the air pressure, or the amount of rain that has fallen?” “Can you tell me something about a hurricane, tornado, or blizzard?” The correct responses could be as followed: A hygrometer measures the air’s water vapor or humidity A barometer measures air pressure An anemometer measures the wind speed An wind vane measures the direction of the wind A rain gauge measures how much rain has fallen A tornado is a spinning column of air that touches the ground A hurricane is a huge storm with strong winds and heavy rain that starts over a warm ocean A blizzard is a heavy snowstorm with strong winds and cold temperatures Please feel free to contact me with any questions. I look forward to teaching the students about different weather patterns that occur around the world along with exploring the outside weather with scientific words! Sincerely, Cooperating Teacher
