Vision Task Forces

Goals of Vision Task Forces (VTFs)

Support achievement of Society-wide strategic priorities.

Develop new tools to address strategic priorities, and educate and influence other
LLS leaders in how to use the tools productively.

Provide development opportunities for volunteer leaders.

Facilitate professional development of selected staff and Executive Directors
through unchartered work with volunteer leaders on strategic priorities.

Selected by BOD Chair, BOR Chair and President & CEO, based on the
following criteria:






Close alignment with strategic priorities of the Society
Potential for broad application and impact
Sufficient volunteer experience and expertise to address effectively
Appeal to both volunteers and staff
Substantial completion within 12 months, prior to Leadership Conference
Minimal staff support and expense
VTF Membership
Task force membership is comprised of a Leadership Team (Chair, Vice Chair
and staff), plus as many as 10 other volunteers, the majority of whom are BOR
members, and Executive Directors as needed
Appointments of Members: VTF members will be appointed in accordance with
Society bylaws.
 Chair and Vice Chair of Each Task Force: BOR members appointed by
BOD Chair in consultation with BOR Chair
 Other Volunteer Members of Task Force: Up to 10 additional volunteers,
appointed by the BOD Chair in consultation with BOR Chair, BOR Vice
Chair and BOD Vice Chair for Field Relations after review of applications
 Staff Members of Task Forces: staff and Chapter Executive Directors
recommended by Executive Management, in consultation with Field
Management Department

Criteria for Appointments of Members




BOR members with relevant experience and expertise
Other selected chapter and BOD volunteers and Chapter Executive
Directors with relevant experience and expertise
Staff members as needed, to partner with the Chair and Vice Chair and
communicate within the staff organization
Commitment to fulfilling the standard operating procedures of the task
force (see next section) and carrying out the activities of the task force,
both within and outside of task force meetings.
VTF Standard Operating Procedures (Minimal Expectations)





Each task force establishes and communicates specific objectives and metrics to
indicate the planned outcomes of its work.
Upon concluding its charge each task force produces a written report with
recommendations, and the VTF Chair submits the report to the BOR Vice Chair and
the BOD Vice Chair for Field Relations.
Members and leaders of each task force participate in approximately:
 4-8 teleconference meetings of the task force
 1-2 in-person meetings of the task force
 Task force Chairs, in conjunction with the BOR Vice Chair, will schedule 2-4
teleconferences with the BOR Chair and the BOD Vice Chair for Field Relations
 2-4 teleconference and in-person meetings of staff members with the Executive
Leadership Team
The Sr. VP, Field Development serves as a resource and coordinator of Home Office
support for the staff on the VTFs and for the BOR Chair, BOR Vice Chair and BOD
Vice Chair for Field Relations

VTF Topics and Charges
1. Chapter Diversity & Cultural Transformation: Educate chapters in how
diversity and inclusiveness can be designed and developed on the local level
to enhance chapter relationships, service, accountability, presence and
productivity. Identify and educate chapters in behaviors and processes they
can employ to propagate, recognize and reinforce our core values and build a
culture that facilitates achievement of our strategic goals.
2. President Best Practices: Identify and educate chapters in board leader best
practices for orchestrating superior:
 board and committee meetings
 board giving
 stewardship
 service to constituents
 access to community resources
 recruitment of volunteers
 community relationships and presence.
3. Volunteer Implementation of the Vision: Identify and educate chapters in
changes that chapter volunteers can initiate in their “business as usual” in
order to accelerate achievement of the Society’s strategic goals. Put
differently, what do our chapter volunteers need to do differently in order to
maximize their value for achievement of the Society’s vision?

It is also recommended that the Society’s Chair appoint a Leadership Conference Committee and Chair
soon after the 2007 Leadership Conference to examine the goals, content and design of future Leadership
Conferences. The Committee’s charge would be to recommend changes in the goals, content and design of
Leadership Conferences to facilitate superior conference stewardship, learning and outcomes.
