TEACHER RESOURCES Mount Vernon Conference October 30-31, 2008 K-12 LESSON PLAN SITES Finding lesson plans on the Internet is extremely easy to do. The key is sorting through the thousands available and finding the ones that are suitable to your classroom, curriculum and students. There are three types of lesson plans that are available on the net. Basic Lesson Plans These are lesson plans that are written for teachers. They are intended for teachers to use with their students. They do not depend on a live Internet connection to do the lesson. They are a great way to generate ideas for your next lesson. http://www.lessonplanspage.com/MathIntegerOperations-Equations68.htm Interactive Lesson Plans These are lesson plans that are written for teachers to use with their students. Each lesson includes the information to do a lesson and the links to further the lesson using additional Internet sites. http://www.nationalgeographic.com/railroad/j1.html SAMPLE LESSON PLAN SITES http://illuminations.nctm.org/LessonDetail.aspx?ID=L659 Index of Math Lesson Plans (K-12) http://www.enchantedlearning.com/Home.html Great Resource for maps, diagrams, craft projects, etc. http://www.teach-nology.com/teachers/lesson_plans/ Index of lesson plans (K-12) in most subject areas http://www.educationworld.com/a_tech/sites/sites063.shtml Index of sites for teaching Grammar http://www.accessexcellence.org/ 7-12 Great resource for health, biology and life science teachers http://www.sciencegems.com/math.html Great Index of 16000 math and science sites (K-12) with emphasis on the secondary classroom) http://www.col-ed.org/cur/ Index of lesson plans (K-12) in most subject areas http://www.kn.pacbell.com/wired/bluewebn/ Index of lesson plans (K-12) in most subject areas http://www.internet4classrooms.com/lesson.htm Index of lesson plans (K-12) in most subject areas http://www.mrdonn.org/ Best Collection of History Lesson Plans http://www.education-world.com/a_lesson/ Index of lesson plans (K-12) Go to Lesson Plans by Subject (Lower Left) WHERE TO START YOUR OWN SEARCH Go to www.google.com In the “Search Box” type: Lesson plans / A Specific Unit You Teach /Your grade level plus and minus 1 EXAMPLE: lesson plans pearl harbor grades 10-12 (This search will give you 12,700 sites) lesson plans lady bugs grades 1-3 (This search will give you 16,800 sites) K-12 WEBQUESTS These are lesson plans that are written for teachers to use with their students. The creator develops a series of questions or requests using key words and students use a search engine to locate sites that have the answers. (I find these to be the least useful for elementary students). http://www.geocities.com/Athens/Parthenon/8565/Film/hitch.html Alfred Hitchcock Scavenger Hunt Guided Tours This type of scavenger hunt uses several Internet sites that have been researched by the creator. The creator finds web sites related to the chosen topic and creates a list of questions and the URLs where students can find the answers. http://www.ecps.k12.nc.us/dfw/ebaker/LincolnWebQuest.htm Abraham Lincoln Scavenger Hunt SAMPLE SCAVENGER HUNT SITES http://www.iss.k12.nc.us/schools/scavenger/summer.htm http://www.pitt.edu/~poole/eledScavenger.html http://www.trumbull.k12.oh.us/teachers/resources/InternetHunt/Default.htm http://www.kathimitchell.com/scavenge.html http://www.spa3.k12.sc.us/Scavenger.html Scavenger Hunt info and templates WHERE TO START YOUR OWN SEARCH Go to www.google.com In the “Search Box” type: scavenger hunts / A Specific Unit You Teach /Your grade level plus and minus 1 POWERPOINT SITES http://www.hardin.k12.ky.us/res_techn/countyjeopardygames.htm A game on PowerPoint http://www.pppst.com/index.html http://grammar.ccc.commnet.edu/grammar/powerpoint.htm Grammar Powerpoints http://www.pptpalooza.net/ History Powerpoints (Grades 8-12 and AP) http://www.glenrosearkansasffa.org/lesson%20plans.htm Agriculture and Industrial Arts Powerpoints http://teach.fcps.net/trt10/PowerPoint.htm Powerpoint Templates, tutorial, etc. http://www.vickiblackwell.com/ppttemplates.html Powerpoint Templates, tutorial, etc. http://jc-schools.net/tutorials/PPT-games/ Jeopardy/Who Wants to Be a Millionaire Templates http://www.internet4classrooms.com/on-line_powerpoint.htm A great tutorial for creating/editing a powerpoint WHERE TO START YOUR OWN SEARCH Go to www.google.com In the “Search Box” type: ppt/ A Specific Unit You Teach /Your grade level plus and minus 1 GRAPHIC ORGANIZER SITES http://www.eduplace.com/graphicorganizer/ http://www.sw-georgia.resa.k12.ga.us/Math.html Math graphic organizers (K-12) http://www.angelfire.com/wi/writingprocess/specificgos.html Graphic Organizers for Reading Comprehension http://www.greece.k12.ny.us/instruction/ela/6-12/Tools/character%20study.pdf Graphic Organizers for Character Analysis for ‘Storytelling’ http://www.edhelper.com/teachers/Storytelling_graphic_organizers.htm Graphic Organizers WHERE TO START YOUR OWN SEARCH Go to www.google.com In the “Search Box” type: graphic organizer / A Specific Unit You Teach /Your grade level plus and minus 1 In the “Search Box” type: venn diagram / A Specific Unit You Teach /Your grade level plus and minus 1 PUZZLE MAKER/ GAME MAKER SITES http://puzzlemaker.school.discovery.com/ http://www.dltk-cards.com/ Great variety of printables http://www.educationoasis.com/curriculum/Printables/printables.htm Certificates, bookmarks and other printable stuff http://teach-nology.com/web_tools/materials/bingo/ Bingo card maker LEARNING CENTERS http://www.ilovethatteachingidea.com/ideas/subj_learning_centers.htm http://www.busyteacherscafe.com/learningcenter/main.htm http://home.att.net/~teaching/centers.htm http://www.teachingheart.net/LC.htm MAP SOURCES http://www.enchantedlearning.com/label/geography.shtml (Maps and geography graphics to be labeled with answer keys) http://plasma.nationalgeographic.com/mapmachine/ (Maps and geography graphics) http://www.nationalgeographic.com/xpeditions/ (Over 600 printable maps) http://www.history.com/maps.do Historical maps COLORING BOOKS SITES Coloring books offer many opportunities for younger students. http://www.niehs.nih.gov/kids/color.htm#later http://www.coolmath4kids.com/coloringbook.html http://coloringbookfun.com/ CERTIFICATE MAKER SITES http://www.certificatecreator.com/default3.htm Great site for custom certificates http://www.senteacher.org/wk/certificates.php Better site for custom certificates http://www.ehhs.cmich.edu/~tbushey/newfree.html Printable Certificates, Coupons, etc. SMART BOARD LINKS http://www.bobsedulinks.com/Smart_Board_Links.htm Collection of Smart Board Lesson Ideas http://www.ecarter.k12.mo.us/dept/elementary/fourthgrade/ccrites/etipslesson1.html Collection of Smart Board Lessons http://www.bristolvaschools.org/mwarren/SBActivities.htm Collection of Smart Board Lessons VIDEO SOURCES NEW!!
