Chief Warrant Officer Thomas Martin Macey, CD Regimental Sergeant Major 39 Service Battalion Chief Warrant Officer Tom Macey (Vancouver British Columbia) joined the Canadian Armed Forces in the Corps of Royal Canadian Electrical Mechanical Engineers as a Weapons Technician Land 03 March 1971 and did his recruit training at Canadian Forces Recruit School, Cornwallis, NS. This was followed by trades training at the RCEME School in Barriefield (CFB Kingston), ON. It should be noted that this was the last course started at the RCEME School in Kingston prior to the move to CFB Borden. He completed his training at the Canadian Forces School of Aerospace and Ordnance Engineering (CFSAOE) in CFB Borden, ON. On completion of his trades training, CWO Macey was posted to Base Maintenance Land Workshop at CFB Chilliwack, BC. During his three-year stay at the workshop, CWO Macey was able to complete his on job training and subsequently received the rank of Craftsman. In 1974 CWO Macey headed east to CFB Petawawa, ON as part of B Squadron (Sabre Sqn), 8th Canadian Hussars (Princess Louise’s). CWO Macey successfully completed his Trade Qualification 5 course and was promoted to Corporal in March 1975 followed by his Junior Leadership Course in 1977 at 2 Combat Training Center Petawawa. April 1977 he headed overseas for a United Nations tour with 73 (Canadian) Service Battalion, Ismaylia, Egypt. During his tour, CWO Macey was appointed to the rank of Master Corporal and posted to the Weapons Technician Land training facility at CFSAOE Borden, ON. During his time at the school he served as an instructor and as a standards writer, completing several training courses and was promoted to Sergeant in October 1979. In 1980, CWO Macey was posted to Weapons and Electronics Platoon, Maintenance Company, 4 Service Battalion, Lahr, West Germany. After a short stay of four years, CWO Macey returned to Canada as the Ancillary Section Head EME Workshop, CFB (Calgary) Detachment, Wainwright AB. CWO Macey completed his senior trades qualification and Senior Leaders course and was promoted to Warrant Officer in 1986 and a year later was posted to 301 Canadian Forces Technical Services Detachment (CFTSD), Diemaco, Kitchener, ON. He was employed as the Senior Quality Assurance representative on the Small Arms Replacement Project (SARP). In 1990 CWO Macey headed west to Base Electrical Mechanical Engineering Workshop, CFB Winnipeg, MN. As the senior technician, he was responsible to coordinate all the inspections of weapons and ancillary equipment including high security locks and containers in Manitoba, Eastern Ontario, Northwest Territories and Yukon. Under the Force Reduction Program (FRP) in 1992, CWO Macey elected to take his release and continue his military connection with the Primary Reserves where he served as Technical Warrant Officer with 5th (BC) Field Regiment RCA in Victoria, BC. In 1999 CWO Macey transferred to 11 (Victoria) Service Battalion as Training Warrant Officer Maintenance Company. He was appointed to the position of Company Warrant Officer in 2001. CWO Macey was promoted to Master Warrant Officer in 2003 and served as the Company Sergeant-Major and Engineering Technical Quarter Master Sergeant (ETQMS) for Maintenance Company. He was employed as the Forward Support Group Sergeant-Major on all Battalion training exercises. As the senior EME technician in 39 CBG, CWO Macey was employed as ETQMS on Cougar Salvo 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and Active Edge 2004. He has also employed as Task Force Cougar Company Sergeant Major on Cougar Salvo 2005 and Camp Services Sergeant Major on Western Defender 09 in support of TF 309. CWO Macey completed workup training as a Tactical CIMIC Operator for Task Force 108/ROTO 5 deploying to Afghanistan in February 2008. During his tour CWO Macey was employed as SO3 CJ9 CIMIC with Regional Command South Headquarters in Kandahar. Upon his return from Afghanistan in November 2008, CWO Macey was promoted to his present rank and appointed Regimental Sergeant Major of 11 (Victoria) Service Battalion. 0n the amalgamation of Combat Service Support units in 39 CBG (11 Svc Bn and 12 Svc Bn), CWO Macey was appointed as the first RSM of the new unit, 39 Service Battalion. During his military career, CWO Macey has been an avid broomball, soccer and baseball player and a competitive curler both in the military and local communities. CWO Macey has been married 36 years to Geraldine Juch, daughter of Sergeant Phillip Juch (QOR, RCAPC, Admin) of Red Deer AB. Tom and Gerry presently reside in Duncan British Columbia looking forward to their military retirement. They have five children and nine grandchildren. CWO Macey, along with his eldest son Derek, own and operate Macey Developments Ltd. building quality family homes in the Cowichan Valley,
