LMS Spectator Expectations One of the goals of our athletic program is learning lifetime values. Sportsmanship is one such value that makes all sports games an educational experience. Please let your good sportsmanship show during the game. An attitude of good sportsmanship should be upheld by all spectators, players and coaches no matter what their personal feelings or loyalties may be in this contest. The officials for today’s game are registered with the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA). Their experience and integrity qualify them to administer the rules of the game. The game, itself, is being played according to the rules of the WIAA which provide for fair competition among players. Acceptable Behaviors: Applaud at end of periods and end of contest Stay off the playing area at all times Applaud good performances regardless of team Accept decisions of game officials Show concern and respect for an injured player Avoid offensive gestures or language Display modesty in victory and graciousness in defeat Show respect for public property and equipment Be personally responsible for the behavior of other children brought to the game Unacceptable Behaviors: Yelling or waving arms during opponent’s free-throw attempt(s) Intentionally trying to disrupt play of game or distract athletes, coaches, officials and/or spectators Using profanity or displaying anger Booing Being rude and/or inconsiderate to other spectators including frequent movement in and out of the stands Allowing children to climb and/or jump on bleachers, vandalize/spoil school property, or being anywhere on school grounds unsupervised. For safety reasons, unsupervised children will be returned to their parent/guardian The score of any athletic event is generally forgotten over time; however, the actions of the players, coaches and spectators are usually remembered long afterward. Think of how history will remember you. Sportsmanship – it’s how you play the game. THANKYOU!
