At the macro-level, the performance and evolution of the different varieties of capitalism are largely dependent on such institutions as the state and public policies, interest associations, training and industrial relations systems, and networks of social relations based on trust and social capital. At a more micro-level, these institutions shape also the strategies of firms and determine the timing and modes of evolution from industrial to service and post-fordist economies. Bibliography C.
