Optional Materials: None 13. Course Outcome Competencies: Upon completion of this course the student should be able to: Identify the historical styles and approaches of leadership. Demonstrate a general knowledge of the content and motivations of leadership styles. Compare and contrast the styles of leadership. Identify particular instances in which the leadership styles may be employed for maximum benefit. Describe the roles of a leader within the dynamics of teamwork situations. Identify the challenges that leaders will face in the future. Compare and contrast the leadership styles of effective leaders. 14. Attendance Requirements: Students enrolled at one of the University’s external campuses should make every effort to attend all class meetings. All absences must be explained to the instructor, who will then determine whether the omitted work may be made up. When a student reaches that number of absences considered by the instructor to be excessive, the instructor will so advise the student and file an unsatisfactory progress report with the campus dean. Any student who misses 25 percent or more of the regularly scheduled class meetings may receive a grade of “F” in the course. Additional attendance polices for each course, as defined by the instructor in the course syllabus, are considered a part of the University’s attendance policy. 15. Course Requirements and Grading Criteria: Readings: Assigned readings are to be completed prior to the class session for which they are assigned. Plagiarism Policy: Intellectual integrity and truthfulness are fundamental to scholarship. Scholars, whether they are performing as students or as teachers, are engaged in a search for truth. Plagiarism is a form of cheating and also a form of theft. Plagiarism occurs when a student fails to give proper credit when information is either quoted or paraphrased. Carelessness is no excuse. As such, it is a breach of scholarly responsibility. It is also unethical and in some cases, illegal. Looking at or copying someone else’s test, answer sheet, and/or paper are counted as cheating. Plagiarism may result in an “F” in the course. Homework Assignments: There will be a variety of homework assignments designed to apply skills learned in the course. Each assignment must be submitted by the due date. Exams: Examinations will consist of a Midterm and a Final. Research Paper: A seven to ten page research paper will be a requirement for this class. At least three references (professional journals, significant research, books, etc.) are required and must be documented using APA guidelines. Students will present an Executive Summary of the paper to the class using presentation tools and skills learned in the course. PPT/Oral Presentation: Prepare a presentation on their research paper and present it to the class.
