4) Fall Career Fair – Sept 14 and 15: Mark your calendar (and if you don’t yet have a calendar, be sure to get one. It’s a useful tool when job hunting!). The
Fall Career Fair is on Monday, Sept 14 and Tuesday, Sept 15 in the CRC.
A list of companies and the majors they are looking for will soon be posted on www.career.gatech.edu/employer/career_fairs.php
. This is a great way to find a spring or summer internship! Be sure to plan to go both days as there will be different companies in attendance each day.
Note: Students do not need to register to attend the Career Fair. Registration is only for employers.
Is it worth your time to go to the Career Fair? The answer is a resounding “Yes!”
Here are some tips to help you most effectively navigate a Career Fair:
Prepare! Before the career fair, prioritize a list of approximately 10-15 companies you plan to talk to.
Dress to impress. Wear professional attire (a suit if possible).
Try to carve out a significant time slot (approximately 2 hours) to dedicate to the career fair each day.
Talk a leather binder with copies of your resume printed on good paper
(you can buy both at the GT bookstore).
Practice a 30-second introduction including your name, major, year, why you’re interested in their company, and what type of position you’re looking for.
Start each conversation with a firm handshake and a confident smile
(even if you’re feeling nervous, which is perfectly normal!).
To calm your nerves, remind yourself that career fair recruiters are often young GT alumni who were in your shoes just a few short years ago!
Ask about next steps and write them down. If the recruiter tells you to apply on their company website, be sure to do so even if it seems like submitting your credentials to a black hole. (Students really do get jobs this way!).
Ask for the recruiter’s business card or email so that you can send them a follow-up thank-you email. Attach an electronic copy of your resume to this email.

12) 43 Weird Things Said in Job Interviews:
"I'm not wanted in this state."
"How many young women work here?"
"I didn't steal it; I just borrowed it."
"You touch somebody and they call it sexual harassment!"
"I've never heard such a stupid question."
Believe it or not, the above statements weren't overhead in bars or random conversations -- they were said in job interviews.
Maybe you were nervous, you thought the employer would appreciate your honesty, or maybe you just have no boundaries. Whatever the reason, you can be certain that you shouldn't tell an interviewer that it's probably best if they don't do a background check on you. (And yes, the hiring manager remembered you said that.)
We asked hiring managers to share the craziest things they've heard from applicants in an interview. Some are laugh-out-loud hysterical, others are jaw dropping -- the majority are both. To be sure, they will relieve anyone who has ever said something unfortunate at a job interview -- and simply amuse the rest of you.
Hiring managers shared these 43 memorable interview responses: Click here to continue.
