NY,NY: Worth. (Required) Course Objectives: This course will introduce the beginning psychology student to the basic concepts, principles, and theories of the discipline of psychology. The student should emerge from this class with an elementary understanding of the following areas of psychology: 1. The historical development of the discipline of psychology. 2. The role of biology in psychological behavior. 3. A concept of consciousness. 4. A basic understanding of some major theories of learning and memory. 5. A basic understanding of some major theories of emotion, motivation and personality. 6. A basic understanding of behavioral changes as impacted by maturation and development. 7. A basic understanding of psychopathology 8. An introductory understanding of the interrelationship between psychology and social interactions. Class Attendance: Each student is expected to attend class regularly. Attendance will be taken regularly. It is very important for you to attend every class. If extreme circumstances cause you to miss more than one class, you should contact me immediately. Exams: Section Exams: There will be 5 section exams, a midterm exam and a final exam. Final Exam: The final exam will be comprehensive and will cover the accumulated material of the section exams that preceded them as well as the last material covered.
