Approach

Description: Propose a new technique for the intra-frame error
concealment based on the dynamic programming approach.
2. Global/Local Motion Compensation for Wavelet Based Video Coding
Using Lifting Techniques
Duration: September 2001-December 2001
Place: USC, LA, USA
Description: Combine both global and local motion compensation to
improve the motion compensation of the wavelet based video coding
with lifting techniques. The improvement can be both the energy
reduction in the temporal high frequency subbands and the entropy of
local motion compensation.
3. Constrained Fading Channel Modeling with Variable Length
Markov Chain
Duration: January 2003- March 2003, September 2005- Present
Place: USC, LA, USA and KMUTT (mainly), Bangkok, Thailand
Description: Model and design the finite state Markov to reflect the
wireless channel behavior with efficient order and number of Markov
parameters using variable length Markov chain.
4. Efficient Algorithm for Video Transmission over Wireless Network
Based on Optimized Adaptive FEC and Packetization
Duration: January 2001 – September 2002
Place: USC under the support of Conexant System Inc., LA, USA
Description: Implement and design adaptive protection to video packets
for multimedia transmission over wireless channel. The protection is
based on the adaptive forward error correction scheme (FEC) including
RS/RCPC
5. A Cross-layer Quality of Service Mapping Architecture for Video
Delivery in Wireless Networks
Duration: June 2002 -August 2002
Place: Microsoft Research Asia, Beijing, China
Description: Propose new cross-layer QoS management architecture for
adaptive wireless scalable video transmission over multiple services. This
framework uses QoS interaction between video coding and transmission
modules, QoS mapping mechanism, video quality adaptation, and
channel service rate estimation.

1. Video Artifact Detection and Correction

Place: Thomson Research laboratory
Description: Develop algorithms and software for detecting and
correcting artifacts in H.264 video applications.
2. MPEG-4 Video Library Development
Duration: April 2003 – September 2003
Place: Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea
Description: Develop API (Application Programming Interface) and C
model of MPEG-4 video encoder/decoder for hardware verification
(smart phone application). Port the MPEG-4 video codec with the
corresponding API to virtual platform and hardware board evaluation.
3. MPEG-4 Error Resilient Implementation
Duration: September 2003 – February 2004
Place: Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea
Description: Implement the error resilient tools of MPEG-4 including
resyn-marker, data partitioning, and RVLC for MPEG-4 video encoder.
4. Optimized H.264 Decoder Implementation
Duration: January 2004 – August 2004
Place: Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea
Description: Lead the video software team, developed, and implemented
the optimized H.264 video decoder.
5. Theia Project Participation
Duration: March 2004 – June 2004
Place: Samsung Electronics, Suwon, Korea
Description: Participate the effort in developing the standardized MPEG4 video codec API.
