I welcomed everyone. It was the first time for Angela and Paige to be involved in the PPG. I
thought it would be good to have other members of staff present to have an input. Angela is
responsible for the website and Paige is on reception, so has a good idea of the patients
registered at our Practice.
Our guests at this meeting were:Alex Friend, Primary Care Co-ordinator at Milton Keynes CCG
Vicki Clark, Fit for Life Co-ordinator, Sports Development at Milton Keynes Council.
I invited Alex from the CCG as we are working closely with him to reduce our patients
attending A&E and out of hours. We also want to work closely with some groups of patients at
a time to build up a relationship.
Vicki came to talk to us about starting up a walking group perhaps for young mums and their
children, as we have a lot of young mums on the Estate. What it would involve is that perhaps
training two members of staff to become a walking leader. Alex suggested it would be good
perhaps if Paige and April were trained up, as they were young and Alex has seen how
interactive they are with the patients. It would involve one days training 9.30 – 3.30 at the
Pavilion, Campbell Park on 15th April 2014. If this date was not convenient then there would
be some other training dates coming up. Paige said she would speak to April, but seemed
very interested. Vicki informed us that the Red House Surgery and Whaddon House Surgery
had walking groups that were going really well. She is in association with MacMillan and the
Ramblers. She said perhaps start off with a 10 minute walk and then progress. She will look
into the best route.
It was agreed that Alex would send me a sample letter to send out to patients. Vicki said she
would send me more information and would be responsible for the advertising. Martin said he
would go to places on the Lakes and drop off the advertising.
We all thought it would be a good idea to try. We would definitely need input from the Health
Visitors as they have access to young families and also from the Doctors. I would also open it
up to other members of staff if they wanted to be involved in the walks.
Padma informed us were we aware of NAPP (National Association for Patient Participation)
celebration week - 2 – June 2014. Angela said she had the information and would make sure
everything was ready for it.
Padma attended the Patient Congress meeting and said that it was better organised this time.
But it would be good if we had a Deputy. She said she would speak to Laly Rice.
Padma mentioned the Clinical Forum Meetings coming up. Martin said he would like to
attend. I said I would get the details and forward to the PPG members.

Angela informed the members about the state of play with the telephones and the website.
Website – we are now up and running for doing prescriptions on line, booking and cancelling
appointments.
Telephones – still on-going problems, but this is being sorted out very soon. We will be
getting rid of the auto attendance and reducing lines coming in, so they give off an engaged
tone instead of a ringing tone. As at the moment patients think we are just letting the phones
ring and ring and this is not the case. This is not ideal, but should work better.
I talked about the Patient Survey we have just finished and the results. We all agreed that it
was quite good. Obviously things needed to work on was the phones, overall patients seemed
quite happy with the service we provided. I said the results would be published in the surgery
and on the website together with our action plan.
I thanked everyone for coming. The next meeting is to be arranged.
