Welcome
Dr. Hynd welcomed everyone to the faculty meeting. He announced that we
have 28 new people to introduce at today’s meeting. Our faculty has had nearly
a 30% turnover during President Jischke’s era. He said that he hopes the
University experiences continued growth with a new president coming in.

New Business
Communications Update – Tonya Agnew and Robert Evans:
Tonya Agnew handed out a sample copy of the faculty profile pages for the
updated COE web site. This sample shows the format of faculty brief vitas.
Please send your vita information to Emily Phelps who will be doing the initial
inputting of information. Most faculty photos have been taken but if yours has
not been, please contact Tonya. Tonya discussed the information that should be
included in your brief vitas.

Dean’s Office Report to the Faculty
Sidney Moon, Associate Dean for Learning and Engagement:
Overview of Goals
o Provide leadership for the College of Education
 Facilitate a smooth transition in leadership for the graduate office
 Publish the first annual COE learning and engagement reports
o Build strong COE graduate programs that produce students who are
excellent scholars, teachers, and leaders
 Implement two new support programs for COE doctoral students
 Work with the GSEC and Jeff Gilger to sponsor the first annual Purdue
University Graduate Education Research Symposium
o Establish, support & maintain programs to prepare teachers, counselors, and
administrators
 Assist programs with special program accreditation review process
 Design a RFP to encourage research on the impact of TE on P-12
students
 Explore options for the development of new undergraduate programs
o Promote and support P-12 engagement at Purdue University
 Facilitate the development of the new P-12 Engagement Center
 Support Purdue faculty and P-12 partners who participate in the PDS
network
 Develop a working definition of engagement and a COE engagement
award (Purdue trends, national trends)

Purpose of the Symposium
The symposium is intended to promote the acculturation of graduate students into
the community of research. Faculty in education will play a big part in the
symposium, as we want advisors to work closely with grad students to prepare
sound proposals, and, eventually, to prepare the results of research for
presentation.
