(1) Rock Food Activity – Sedimentary Sandwiches, Metamorphic Marshmallows, &
Igneous Icing to remember the three types of rock and how they are formed
(2) Review W.E.D. (weathering, erosion, deposition) with relay game. Boys vs
Girls…. (break, move, drop)
(1) Colored mini-marshmallows, put in ziplock bag and sit on bag, using “heat and pressure” to create
“metamorphic marshmallows”, wheat and white bread, break into tiny sediments, squish together and
layer a white “pancake”, then wheat, then white, etc to make “sedimentary sandwiches”, Hershey
kisses and red/orange icing on the tip look like volcanoes and make “igneous icing”.
(2) Two spoons, two buckets or measuring beakers, dirt – have a relay outside and repeat each time
“break, move, drop” to remember the order and different vocab. (break dirt out of the ground – move
across yard – drop in bucket…) Could include the “WEDding” concept by dressing in bride/groom
accessories also.

“Test and Rest” day. Students will take a 20 question, multiple choice test. On
average, tests take about 30 minutes. Students then watch a TOPIC-RELATED
video after the test. (Friday schedules are shorter due to R.I.T.)
