Worldwide ERC® National Relocation Conference:
Signs of Recovery, Optimism
(Name and Company) recently attended the 2010 Worldwide ERC® National Relocation Conference, held May 19-21 in Orlando, FL.
More than 1,300 professionals attended the Conference, an annual meeting that offers U.S. domestic and international assignment
educational sessions as well as professional development; peer-to-peer benchmarking; industry experts and a comprehensive
exhibit program. Program Planning Committee Chairman Susan Schneider, SCRP, GMS, President of Plus Relocation Services, Inc.,
who is also serving as vice president on the Worldwide ERC® board of directors, noted that “We pooled our resources to address the
new normal, deliver positive messages from expert presenters, introduce achievable and cost-efficient innovations, and
demonstrate unique ways to embrace change in a fluid and productive manner. Overall attendance was up by 30% from 2009 and
corporate attendance increased more than 60% from the previous year - we definitely saw signs of recovery at this meeting.”
Attendees selected sessions for their education and development that focused on real estate and appraising; retaining and
motivating employees; relocation policy and process; pricing and fees; inventory solutions; mortgage trends; household goods
transportation; customer service; family issues and transferee and senior management concerns.
Featured conference speakers included representatives from Afterburners, Inc., presenting “A Fighter Pilot’s Secret to Business
Success;” motivational presenter Victoria Labalme; sales expert and author Robert Stevenson; new Worldwide ERC CEO Peggy
Smith, SCRP, GMS, and panelists Earl Lee, Prudential Real Estate and Relocation Services, Inc.; Lisa Milovanovic, SCRP, GMS,
PepsiCo; Mike Piker, Mercer and Rob Sibcy; Sibcy Cline Realtors.
Two new features introduced at the meeting were a “Geek Speak Room,” where attendees could drop in to address their technology
and new media questions with knowledgeable technicians; and “Speed Networking,” a fast-paced environment for service providers
and purchasers to connect.
The Worldwide ERC® Foundation for Workforce Mobility held its traditional Foundation Walk on Friday, May 21, to raise funds for
the Ovarian Cancer National Alliance (OCNA) and to honor Janet Holloman, late wife of Vice President and Publisher of MOBILITY
magazine Jerry Holloman, who passed away in March after a courageous year-long battle with ovarian cancer. Jerry Holloman
accepted a check for the OCNA in the amount of $10,000 to aid in research, early detection, diagnosis, and education about this
disease that claims the lives of 15,000 women a year.
