2008 Progress Report 2008 Ottawa Lambda Foundation Progress Report 2008 Progress Report 2008 Giving and Receiving Lambda Foundation is a federally incorporated, non-profit organization with a unique mission – to build bridges of understanding across Canadian communities by promoting the achievements and culture of gay and lesbian people. To advance public education in equality rights, Lambda partners with universities, colleges, and schools to establish scholarships, awards and bursaries. Donors, as well as the recipients of these awards, are publicly recognized as reputable role models, to help advance worthy achievements and the culture of gay and lesbian people. Executive Message In 2007 Lambda initiated a major shift in purpose and focus -- away from Wilde About Sappho hosted events -- to funding scholarships and awards for gay and lesbian studies. Partnering with Canadian universities, colleges, and schools, Lambda established scholarships and awards on seven university campuses from coast-to-coast and at one high school. In 2008 Lambda extended its interest in fundraising and philanthropy by helping to establish the LGBT Giving Network and attending the 2008 LGBT Philanthropy in Canada Conference in Toronto. Bursary development began as Lambda undertook the initial assessment of rural, medically-related bursary in memory of Dr. Gary Gibson. Gary Sealey A new logo was adopted by the Foundation and the Lambda website was revised to incorporate the new logo, the redefined direction for the organization, and to make it easier to deliver regular content updates. Thanks to the many donors for creating these opportunities for students while enabling us to partner with educational institutions and communities, in mutually beneficial ways.
