Recruitment and Selection Policy
Introduction
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc as a responsible corporate organisation is an equal opportunity

This document is developed to put in proper perspective the recruitment policy (process and
procedures) of NPF Microfinance Bank Plc as a guide to future exercises.
As an organisation that engender trust and integrity, NPF Microfinance Bank Plc is

Purpose
The intent of this policy is to ensure that recruitment and selection decisions are made
consistently, fairly and equitably across NPF Microfinance Bank Plc and meet any legislative
requirements.
Scope
This policy applies to permanent vacancies at NPF Microfinance Bank Plc. This policy
excludes temporary assignments.
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc is committed to recruiting all employees fairly, transparently and
on the basis of merit so that the best candidate is hired for the position. NPF Microfinance
Bank Plc may decline to offer a candidate employment because the candidate is unsuitable
for the position.
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc may also decline to offer a candidate employment due to a
matter disclosed by background checks, outcome of a Drug and Alcohol assessment, either
where a person is unable to perform the requirements of a position or any other criminal
engagement.

NPF Microfinance Bank Plc promotes a recruitment approach that encourages internal and
external advertising of roles. However, it is recognised that there are some instances when it
is in NPF Microfinance Bank Plc interest to limit the breadth of advertising or approve a role
as an exception to advertising entirely.
Variations to the standard process can only be made where it is clear that, because of the
special circumstances, application of the variation would not breach the principles of merit
and equity. Any request for an exception to advertising must clearly address this issue and
requires endorsement from the Chief Human Resources Officer (MD/CEO).
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc will source candidates through the various channels available for
Management Staff Committee and/or Finance & General-purpose Committee. Channels
include internal advertising, the candidate database, and advertising on the NPF
Microfinance Bank Plc website and job boards, referrals and via other direct sourcing
options.
Recruitment Agencies
Agencies may be engaged if the skills required are specialist in nature, there is a large
number of the same role type to be filled or to provide extended geographic reach.
Engagement with recruitment agencies can only be initiated by the relevant board
committee. All agencies engaged must have executed an engagement agreement with NPF
Microfinance Bank Plc in accordance with extant Labour Law.
Agency usage will require business justification, including, risks/impacts to the business
operations if an agency is not approved and insight into what alternative sourcing strategies
are available outside of engaging an agency.
Internal Candidates
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc encourages the filling of vacant positions by moving employees
internally provided they have the skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications to perform
the role. NPF Microfinance Bank Plc will generally advertise positions externally but may
limit advertising of a position to internal applicants only, where it is demonstrated a genuine
internal labour market exists that would deliver appropriately skilled candidates.
Re-Employment of Former NPF Microfinance Bank Plc Employees
NPF Microfinance Bank Plc may reconsider the re employment of its former staff whose exit
was in pursuit of further education.
Selection Process & Procedures
Process
The following process is to be used when selecting applicants for employment:

screening and short listing suitable candidates using the Key Selection Criteria
(KSC) as set out in the position description.
CLERICAL
1. National Diploma certificate in relevant Field
2. Industrial Training /Working experience in relevant field
3. Not more than 25 years old.
FRESHERS – Assistant Officer
1. First degree (B.sc/HND minimum of 2nd class lower/ Lower credit) in relevant fields
from a recognised university (NUC) or Polytechnic (NBTE).
2. 2nd degree /professional qualification will be added advantage
3. Not more than 30 years old
4. NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate
EXPERIENCED CANDIDATES- Officer
1. First degree (B.sc/HND minimum of 2nd class lower/ Lower credit) in relevant fields
from a recognised university (NUC) or Polytechnic (NBTE).
2. Second degree and/or professional qualification
3. Cognate experience minimum of 3years
4. Not more than 35 years old
5. NYSC Discharge Certificate or Exemption Certificate
ASSISTANT MANAGER & ABOVE
1. First degree (B.sc/HND minimum of 2nd class lower/ Lower credit) in relevant fields from
a recognised university (NUC) or Polytechnic (NBTE).
2. Second degree and /or professional qualification
3. Minimum of 5years cognate experience
4. Must be a certified practitioner (MCB)
5. Not more than 35years old
Procedures

Aptitude Test

interviewing candidates using the KSC’s of the position description and NPF
Microfinance Bank Plc‘s values 

using psychometric tests as necessary

conducting reference checks on the successful candidate

completing background checks if appropriate for the position

Prior to any offer being made to a candidate the Management Staff Committee must confirm
that all terms of employment including remuneration are within the scope of the position that
has been advertised.
Roles and Responsibilities
The relevant Board committee is responsible and may delegate its responsibilities to the
management staff committee:
liaising with and supporting the Head, Administration during the recruitment and
selection process
managing the process
managing all candidate communications including advice and feedback to unsuccessful
candidates
The Head, Administration is responsible for:
working with the Management Staff /Board during the recruitment and selection process
to ensure there is a clear understanding of the skills, experience, knowledge and
qualifications required for the position
ensuring the position is allocated in the workforce plan, has a position description, has
been evaluated and sized from a
selecting the successful candidates in conjunction not relevant Board committee.

The Administration department is responsible for:
generating a letter of offer and sending to the Head, Administration for signature
generating a contract of employment on receiving the candidate’s acceptance
The consultant is responsible for:

relationships with their teams and individuals
ensuring that NPF Microfinance Bank Plc’s organisational design principles are adhered
to in the approval of roles in the workforce plan and creation of job descriptions by managers
Considering the merits of internal candidates when necessary
Submission of report to relevant board committee
