Neuroradiology Goal: To gain a experience in neuroimaging that ensures the familiarity with and knowledge of all relevant diagnostic and interventional studies necessary to correlate findings with other clinical information for the care of patients. Objectives: 1. The resident will be able to demonstrate basic science knowledge and skills in neuroimaging including the procedural aspect of neuroimaging.(MK, PC) 2. The resident will demonstrate organized thinking in interpreting studies of the brain and spinal cord including CT, MRI, MRA, and conventional and CT angiography. (MK) 3. Understanding of the neuroimaging technology and the possible impact on the patients. (MK, PC) 4. The resident will demonstrate the ability to carry out a differential diagnosis of various radiological findings(MK) 5. The resident should gain exposure to the following topics both by review of films, review of teaching files and independent reading. The normal developmental changes seen radiologically in a developing child, pediatric congenital malformations of the brain and spinal cord, diseases of the white matter, pediatric strokes, encephalitis, and pediatric brain tumors. (MK) 6. The resident will arrive on time and interact in a positive manner. (P) 7. The resident will interact appropriately with technical staff and others on the team. (ICS) 8. Research clinical questions regarding their patient’s radiological abnormalities using information technology to access on-line medical information to support their own education and to improve patient care and education. ( PBL) 9. Develop an understanding of cost-effective health care that does not impact quality of care. (SBP) 10. Development of criteria for ordering neuroimaging studies. (PC, MK, ICS, PBL) 11. Organization of a self review of neuroanatomy, using reference texts and teaching files. (PC, MK, PBL) This rotation will be done under the supervision of Dr. Ken Ward. The expectation is the daily attendance of the reading of images as well as a review of the teaching files. Reading on clinical correlation is expected. He must approve any vacations. You are expected to attend conferences and your continuity clinic. Resources: Diagnostic Imaging: Brain: A.G. Osborn, K.L. Salzman, A.J .Barkovich, Amirsys, 2009. Pediatric Neuroimaging: A.J.
