ECONOMICS 212
SPRING SEMESTER, 2015
INSTRUCTOR: Ben Baker, CPA
Office: 2150 Chambers
Office hours: M-W-F: 9:30 -- 10:30
M-W-F: 11:30 -- 12:30
Other times by appointment
Schedule:
Honor Code: All work in this course is bound by the Honor Code. Students may not use reviews or multiplechoice questions from prior semesters.
Attendance:
M-W-F 12:30 – 1:20
Chambers 2164
Students are encouraged to attend all class meetings. It is it the responsibility of the student to make arrangements to make up work missed because of absences.
Cell phones Cell phones are not permitted in class. Turn off cell phones before class begins.
Texting during class is absolutely prohibited. Anyone found to be texting will be asked to leave the room and will not be allowed to return to class until they meet with the instructor to provide assurance that it will not happen again. If you simply cannot help yourself, you are welcome to leave your telephone in my office during class time. This is a zero tolerance policy, unfortunately necessitated by repeated occurrences in previous
Grading: semesters .
Three reviews will be given during the semester. The tentative dates for reviews are listed below.
Any changes to that schedule will be announced at least one week in advance. A comprehensive final examination will be given during the examination period. Reviews are due at the time indicated; extensions will be allowed only for dire circumstances. Arrangements for turning in a review must be made with the professor in advance. Because reviews are given on a take-home basis and are handed out several days prior to the due date, students should be able to avoid conflicts and should find time to take the review by the due date. Failure to complete a review in a timely manner will result in a grade of zero for that review. This rule is in fairness to other students who take the review as assigned. An extension of time to study would be unfair to those who have prepared for a review according to schedule.
In addition to homework assignments, multiple-choice question sets will be distributed for each set of chapters to be tested. These questions are part of the final course grade (a total of 8%) and students must work independently on the questions. Students may use the text and notes from class to answer the questions. You may ask me (Mr. Baker) questions about the multiple-choice questions. The first three sets of multiple-choice questions are due along with the corresponding review. For instance, for the first review, the multiple-choice assignment is due on February 14 (see below). Multiple-choice questions for Chapters 15, 16 and 23 are due at noon on Reading Day. The multiple-choice questions may be turned in early but not late. It is expected that the multiple-choice questions will be answered as material is covered, as a guide for study. Therefore, questions turned in late will NOT BE
ACCEPTED, under any circumstances.
