CREDIT SYSTEM AND YEAR OF STUDY
As of the 2000-2001 Academic year, KIMEP has adopted an American credit system as its
educational foundation: for each course a student successfully completes, a certain numbers
of credits is designated. The usual number for a full semester course is 3 (three).
1. Once a student has achieved a total number of credits (as required by their department)
the student is eligible for graduation.
2. Courses that are assigned a different value of credits are automatically weighed
differently in regards to a student's GPA. Courses that are assigned as a higher credit
value influence a student's GPA more than those with a lower value.
3. The credit system allows a unified application to all programs. A student who takes a
course in one department may apply those credits to another department.
4. The credit system allows for flexible planning of the courses.
Under the credit system the number of credits a student has completed determines that
student’s year of study.
0-30 credits
=
First Year Student
31-60 credits
=
Second Year Student
61-90 credits
=
Third Year Student
91 credits or above
=
Fourth Year Student
MAXIMUM NUMBER OF CREDITS PER SEMESTER
The maximum number of credits graduate and undergraduate students may take per semester
is 18 (eighteen), but not more than 6 courses in Fall and Spring semesters.
Any graduate student on academic probation may register for a maximum of 3 courses. This
number includes retakes and English courses.
Any undergraduate student on academic probation may register for a maximum of 4 courses.
This number includes retakes
REGISTRATION PROCESS

online registration system at http://www.kimep.kz Registrar.
