French translations errors in his biography implied Father Hecker was requesting the Church relax certain “ancient” ways to accommodate the new American culture. Progressivism pervaded American culture, government, newspapers and other institutions. De Fesch's joyful "Missa Paschalis" or "Paschal Mass" was written for the Easter season in celebration of Christ rising from the dead. The "Missa in G" or "Mass in G" is a striking example of de Fesch's distinct musical individualism, exemplifying the composer's position as one of the most important composers in England during the second quarter of the 18th century. Friday July 21, 2006 10 AM EWTN GLOBAL SHOWCASE SOLANUS CASEY: PRIEST, PORTER, PROPHET (90:00) Born in 1870 and baptized Bernard Francis Casey, he went no further than grammar school. As a result, he was educationally handicapped when he entered seminary and was dismissed in his fourth year. He eventually entered the Capuchin order, taking the name Solanus, and was ordained as a simplex, or Mass, priest. He was never allowed to preach or hear confessions. In Yonkers, NY, he was assigned the humble duties of sacristan and porter. Soon, however, his charismatic gift of healing and prophecy began to manifest themselves. The people flocked to him, so much so that as his health declined, he had to be moved to a rural monastery in Indiana … to which busloads of people came down from Detroit. Following his death in 1957, he was subsequently exhumed and found to be incorrupt. He was pronounced Venerable to Pope John Paul II in 1995.
