This includes the development and implementation of revenue growth strategies, management of financial, human and related physical resources, implementing and maintaining operational best practices, and ensuring the provision of effective customer service to clients and staff. Maximizing revenue opportunities in all assigned areas will be highly prioritized and key to the success of this role. The Manager, Business Development will develop and execute go-to-market sales strategies for membership/shoe- tag/towel/locker sales, retail merchandising, and sponsorship, space rentals, and varsity sport event ticket sales. Collaboration with the Manager, Marketing & Communications will be critical to achieving desired results.. This position requires commitment and adherence to the values and principles of Sport & Recreation as expressed in the mandate of the department. Education: University degree or equivalent, preferably in recreation sport administration, sports marketing, business administration or equivalent experience. Current certification in First Aid and CPR required and AEMA qualifications. Experience: Minimum 5 years’ progressive experience in a customer service related environment. Demonstrated background in leadership, training and supervision, marketing, sales, business development, promotions, strategic planning and revenue generation. Must have demonstrated ability developing and managing a high performance team of professionals. Experience managing in a unionized environment an asset. Experience within a sports, leisure services, hospitality or entertainment related environment is preferred, however not required. Skills: The candidate must demonstrate skill/ability in the following areas; managing multiple tasks and projects simultaneously or within common time frames; training, scheduling, supervising, directing and coordinating the activities of full-time and part-time staff. Also, must have highly developed business development and sales skills with extensive experience meeting measurable targets. Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills with highly evolved people management capabilities. Needs the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing while exercising good judgement and strong business instincts. Also, must be capable of demonstrating superior time management and organizational skills, strategic planning, and scheduling. Applicant must be highly experienced in the development and execution of a professional customer service strategy including managing the process of extracting feedback to make it a two-way experience. As well, must have advanced skills in Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, e-mail, and internet/intranet.
