Rhodes - Marian 672 – 6/09 1 Welcome Letter: May 1, 2010 Dear Learner: Welcome to the ARRT Certification Seminar – 10-526-174. We are Marianne Rhodes and Amber Schuck and we will be the co- facilitators for this course. We are sending you this same information via e-mail and U.S. mail (mailed May 1, 2010), so if you get the information one way but not the other, please contact Marianne. You will have access to the online course in Blackboard beginning on May 18, 2010 . A document is attached that includes access directions for the online course, plus information on your NTC student e-mail account, the Student Help Desk, and the Orientation to Online Learning. If you are new to on-line classes, this orientation will help get you started. Please look it over prior to the first day of class. The Internet portion of this course contains learning modules related to each section of the ARRT registry. You will be reviewing content segments and then taking on-line tests to evaluate your progress. You can always go back and redo sections in areas that you feel that you need more practice. We will be available to help answer your specific questions and we are only an e-mail or phone call away. The text book that you will need is XXXXXXXXXXXXXX and available through the NTC bookstore. An optional book purchase is an online subscription to McGraw Hills Rad Review Easy by Dr. S. A. Saia. This optional purchase is located at http://radrevieweasy.com and costs $19.95 for a two month subscription. You could make this purchase at anytime during the course. It is not needed to get started. You can purchase the required text by stopping in at the NTC Bookstore on the Wausau campus if you are in the Wausau area or by contacting one of NTC's regional campuses in Antigo, Wittenberg, Spencer, Phillips, or Medford. Another option is to call the NTC Bookstore at 715/675-3331, Ext. 1154, or 1-888-6827144, Ext. 1154, and ask that the books be shipped to you. They will charge a shipping and handling fee, and they will require payment either by credit card or Rhodes - Marian 672 – 6/09 2 check prior to shipping the books. You can also access the Bookstore online at http://bookstore.ntc.edu/. You'll need a computer with Internet access. We recommend using Internet Explorer as your browser. You can use others; however, one that does not play nice with our course software - Blackboard, is AOL. If you are using AOL, you can sign in as you normally do, but then minimize AOL and open Internet Explorer and use it to access the class. If you have problems, contact the Student Help Desk (contact information is in the attached document). Online courses come in many shapes and sizes just like regular classroom courses. This course has specific due dates for the learning plan activities and exams. Within the time frame of that learning plan, you can choose the time and place to work on the course. The advantages are that you don't have to be "at school" on a specific day and at a specific time and you don't have to drive back and forth. Although we hope that you’ll be able to successfully complete the class, sometimes things happen. If you decide not to take this class or want to drop the course later, please contact Student Services at NTC at 715/675-3331, Extension 4940. NTC’s refund policy states that you must request a refund within a specific time period as listed at this web site: http://www.ntc.edu/students/policies.htm#refunds. We are available by e-mail or phone for help, so please feel free to ask questions to make sure you understand the content. We will do our best to help you succeed with this material. Your first step toward successful completion of this course is to reply to this e-mail to let Marianne know you received the information. Please include your first and last name in your response to Rhodes@ntc.edu. We are looking forward to working with you this semester.
