Career Services for the FULTON SCHOOL
Career services extended to students this past academic year include:
 60 class presentations conducted, with a minimum average of 22 students per class. 27 classroom
presentations were for Fulton students. Additionally supervised 6 interns in our office (CMAT and Art).
 33 workshops facilitated with an average of 20 students attending each. These workshops are exclusive to
the workshops given at summer/winter Student and Parent Orientation, Family Weekend, Admitted
Student Day, Greek organizations (3) or Residence Halls (2). A sample of the 20 topics offered includes:
o Navigating the Federal Hiring Process
o I Declare…Figuring out your Major and Minor (collaboration with the academic advisors)
o How to Approach a Job Fair
o Successfully Gaining Admission into Graduate School
o Translating Study Abroad into Career Success
o The Dream Share Project (outside speakers brought in)
 2096 individual student appointments were held. This is 359 more appointments this year as compared to
last. 36% of all appointments were with Fulton students. On average these appointments are at least 30
min. Thursday walk-ins accounted for 448 of these appointments. By far the most popular service we
offer remains the resume assistance. (Table 1)
 Communication to students is in various forms:
o Our newly introduced APP has 1200 subscribers. Its’ content in part is feed by our FaceBook,
LinkedIn and Twitter sites.
o 1398 students signed-up to receive weekly text messages from the Career Services Office, 399
were Fulton school students.
o 720 Job Alerts were emailed to seniors, targeted by majors.
o Internship Alerts were sent weekly in a digest to juniors, listing a total of 340 such opportunities.
 Each Job Fair, save for the Health, enjoyed at least a 10% growth in the number of employers attending.
o Fall General Job and Internship Fair- 63 employers, 401 student attendees, 140 Fulton students.
o Spring General Job and Internship Fair- 78 employers, 594 student attendees, 190 Fulton students.
o SU/UMES Education Job Fair- 40 employers, 212 student attendees
o Summer Job Fair- 28 employers, 212 student attendees
o Health Care Job Fair- 15 employers, 82 student attendees
 eRecruiting is our online database providing services to students, alumni and employers.
o 1923 students have logged into this system at least once this year, 627 being Fulton students.
o 613 Documents (resumes etc.) were uploaded, 126 from Fulton students.
 Employers are a vital partner to Career Services.
o Over 50 employers conducted on-campus interviews/information sessions, including 2 employers
who used a skype format, interviewing almost 300 students, including 26 Fulton students.
o A total of 224 employers attended at least one of our Job Fairs.
o 235 new employers were added to our database.
o Gained yearly sponsorship of interview room with Trinity Logistics.
o Career Services enjoyed partnering with the Perdue School to organize “Business in the Atrium” held throughout the year on Tuesday through Thursday, it is designed to introduce businesses and
organizations to all SU students. Over 40 organizations participated in this inaugural year.
Career Services also provides overall service to the University and the profession. Some highlights of this service
include:
 Offered a 2 credit Career Planning class as a part of a new Living Learning Community, “The Explorers”.
Additionally taught a 2 credit Career Planning class for seniors each semester.
 Served on 5 search committees and 7 University-wide committees.
 Oversaw the Student Volunteer Center
 Active members with 2 career associations-Maryland Career and Selective Liberal Arts Consortiums.


Helped VP of Student Affairs with large scale career project for Leadership MD.
Presented at 2 professional conferences:
o Mid Atlantic Career Counseling Association (MACCA)-“How Career Services and Admissions
Can Work Together-an 8-year model
o Virginia Association of Colleges and Employers (VACE)-“Focus on the phone to reach students”

First Destination Survey: Every year as students pick up their caps and gowns, we set up computers in the
Bookstore so students can complete an online survey that lets us know where they are going after
graduation…their “first destination”. A small token of appreciation is given to students for their assistance.
Below are just a few highlights of the data. You can look at complete survey data, including some major
information on our webpages in just a few weeks. This year 834 students completed the survey, about 1/3
completed the survey before picking up their caps and gowns.
