PATH MASTERS OF THE TOWN OF CAROLINE
AFTER 1923
This is a copy of a notebook in the Town of Caroline Historical Room that lists the Path Master,
a description of the route he was in charge of, and the names of people who lived or owned
property bordering the road in his jurisdiction. Current names of roads are in (italic).
#1 – JOHN DUSENBERRY – “I do hereby appoint you as path master of the following roads:
Beginning at the north line in the Town of Caroline by John Dusenberry’s small barn, thence
running south to the intersection with the macadam road at Slaterville Springs, (Midline Road
from the Town of Dryden line south to NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road) to remove snow from
highway according to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You
are to receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are to warn each man out to help you except
those who are past seventy years of age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or those physically
disabled. Each man is assessed a pole tax of $1.50 a year. Each man is assessed at the rate of
$1.50 a thousand according to his assessed valuation.”

south to NYS Rt.79/Slaterville Road) to remove snow from highway according to the highway
law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your
service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those who are past seventy years of
age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or those physically disabled. Each man is assessed a pole

Rt.79/Slaterville Road, south on Lounsberry [formerly Mill Road] to the Landon Road
intersection at Quick Cemetery) to remove snow from highway according to the highway law
section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your
service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those who are past seventy years of

the Town of Dryden line, to NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road then east to the intersection of
Lounsberry [formerly Mill Road] and Thomas Road) to remove snow from highway according to
the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a

intersection with NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road, west on State Highway to intersection with
Besemer Road [formerly Hutchinson Road; starting at the Town of Dryden line on Besemer Hill
Road, then east on State Highway to Landon Road intersection] to remove snow from highway
according to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to
receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those
who are past seventy years of age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or those physically disabled.

rods to Town of Dryden Line (south on Besemer Road from to Brooktondale Road; west on NYS
Rt. 79/Slaterville Road to Town of Dryden line) to remove snow from highway according to the
highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day
for your service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those who are past seventy

to intersection at A. Kenyon Corner,(Landon Road at Lounsbery Road intersection to
intersection of NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road; Van deMark Road south-down the hill to
Brooktondale Road) to remove snow from highway according to the highway law section 7879-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are
to warn each man out to help you except those who are past seventy years of age, old soldiers,

Corner, ( NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road at the intersection of Lounsbery and Thomas Roads east
through the hamlet to the Harford Road intersection) to remove snow from highway according
to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a
day for your service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those who are past
seventy years of age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or those physically disabled. Each man is

(Creamery Road at NYS Rt. 79/Slaterville Road to intersection with Central Chapel Road) to
remove snow from highway according to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway
Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are to warn each man out to
help you except those who are past seventy years of age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or
those physically disabled. Each man is assessed a pole tax of $1.50 a year. Each man is

Road south to Central Chapel Road intersection, then left and continue to intersection of ’76
Road and Grove School Road) to remove snow from highway according to the highway law
section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your
service. You are to warn each man out to help you except those who are past seventy years of
age, old soldiers, cripples, ministers, or those physically disabled. Each man is assessed a pole

remove snow from highway according to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway
Law of 1923. You are to receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are to warn each man out to

Road – formerly Depot Road -- to gravel bank; Perkins Road at Caroline Depot Road intersection
north to Beaver Creek Road) to remove snow from highway according to the highway law

intersection at the State Highway at Coopers Cemetery thence running south to intersection at
Ross Corner, (White Church Road at Valley Road intersection, south then west, through what is
now a private drive, to the Brookton Depot – now, Valley Road at the gravel pit; White Church
Road from Cooper’s Cemetery south to Caroline Depot Road intersection) to remove snow from
highway according to the highway law section 78-79-80-81 of the Highway Law of 1923. You
are to receive $2.00 a day for your service. You are to warn each man out to help you except
