For Meg Evans, it's personal. When she started her collegiate career, there was no place
for her, someone who identifies as queer and gender non-conforming, on campus. Now as
director of the on-campus LGBT Resource Center, she wants to ensure that no UGA

The University of Georgia will celebrate Black History Month 2016—“Hallowed Grounds:
Sites of African American Memories”—with a wide variety of programs and activities across
campus, including a keynote address by scholar and journalist Marc Lamont Hill and a gala
celebration of the Harlem Renaissance.

program at Clarke Middle School
Mansur Buffins is helping local students feel more connected to campus. As a sophomore,
Buffins has launched a new mentor program that connects black male UGA students with
their counterparts at Clarke Middle School.

Historic Legion Pool opens for its 79th summer season. Pool passes are available at the pool
entrance for UGA students, faculty and staff and at the Tate Student Center Business Office for
non-University affiliated community members. The pool is open daily from 11:30 a.m.-7 p.m.
through August 1 and 3-7 p.m. from August 2-7.
