FBLA State Leadership Conference
Crowne Plaza
Springfield, IL
April 10-12, 2013
Students will leave on Thursday. The competition begins Friday morning, final competitions and awards on
Saturday. Students should be returning Saturday evening about 6-7PM.
Registration is due Feb 1st along with a check for the registration $60 payable to GCHS. There is a flat
registration fee for each adviser, member, professional division member, and guest attending the conference.
Payment of this fee gives each registrant full privilege of attending and participating in all conference
activities, the competition, and meals (Friday’s business dinner and Saturday’s lunch). THIS DOES NOT
INCLUDE HOUSING. Students are responsible for Friday breakfast, lunch, Saturday Breakfast and any snacks
(such as Saturday afternoon-usually stop on the way home at Avanti’s on Illinois State University’s campus).
There will be a formal dinner on Friday night where nice business attire is expected. The dance following
dinner is causal but members need to be appropriately dressed-such as for school attendance.
Arrangements must be made by each adviser to house FBLA members, advisers, and guests at the. Hotel
reservations are made at the Decatur Conference Center and Hotel on first come/first served basis.
Calculate rooms at $112 per night divided by the number of students per room. I am suggesting four students
per room for a fee of $28/per night. We will be staying two nights. Budget $56 for the hotel. We will
strongly encourage students to find a roommate to cut the costs. There will be a minimum of 2 students per
room. NO ONE is allowed to stay by themselves.
Room registration will be available after 2 p.m. as rooms are available. Check out time is 12 noon. Be
prepared to leave on Saturday before going to lunch. We will put our items back on the District 127 Mini-bus.
The adviser is to register for rooms for all FBLA members. All FBLA members are to remain outside the hotel
until the adviser receives the room Keys. NO Students will be allowed to leave the Hotel once they are
registered unless accompanied by an FBLA advisor.

In the past the GCHS has provided the students with $34 of spending money for meals. We cannot guarantee
that will be the case this year. If it is approved they MUST save all receipts and turn them into Mrs. Keuth.
*Check with Mrs. Keuth to see if your event may have an earlier due date such as computer or web based
events. Computer based testing will be done 3/3 Saturday at West Chicago High School.

FBLA-PBL DRESS CODE FOR ADVISERS, MEMBERS, AND GUESTS
FBLA-PBL members and advisers should develop an awareness of the image one's appearance projects. The
purpose of the dress code is to uphold the professional image of the association and its members and to prepare
students for the business world.
Appropriate FBLA-PBL attire is required for all attendees--advisers, members, and guests--at all general sessions,
competitive events, workshops, and exhibits and talent show areas. Conference name badges are part of the
dress code and must be worn for all conference functions.
PROFESSIONAL ATTIRE ACCEPTABLE FOR OFFICIAL FBLA-PBL ACTIVITIES INCLUDE:
MALES
*Business suit with collar dress shirt
and necktie or
*Sport coat, dress slacks, collared
shirt, and necktie or
*Dress slacks, collared shirt, and
necktie.
*Banded collar shirt may be worn only
if sport coat or business suit is worn.
*Dress shoes and socks.
FEMALES
*Business suit with blouse
*Business pantsuit with blouse
*Skirt or dress slacks with blouse or
sweater
*Business dress.
*Dress shoes and nylons.
Inappropriate attire includes:
-Jewelry in visible body piercing, other than ears.
-Denim or chambray fabric clothing of any kind, overalls, shorts, skorts,
stretch or stirrup pants, exercise or bike shorts.
-Backless, see-through, tight-fitting, spaghetti straps, strapless,
extremely short, or low-cut blouses/tops/dresses/skirts.
-T-shirts, Lycra, spandex, midriff tops, tank tops, bathing suits.
-Sandals, athletic shoes, industrial work shoes, hiking boots, bare feet or
over-the-knee boots.
-Athletic wear, including sneakers.
-Hats or flannel fabric clothing.
-Bolo ties.
-Visible foundation garments.
Clarification - Many women's two-piece suits are currently designed so that they do not require a blouse.
Therefore, this will be accepted. In addition, sling-back shoes, open-toe shoes, and sleeveless dresses are
accepted. Women's shoes do need to have a back.
Casual attire may be worn for the dance at the State Conference. This includes jeans, nice T-shirts, or
denim/chambray shirts, sneakers, or sandals. Not allowed are “cut-out” or “cut-off” jeans, Lycra, spandex,
midriff tops, and bathing suits. Shoes and shirts must be worn.
Semi-formal, formal, or official FBLA-PBL attire should be worn to the banquet at the State Conference.
New fashion trends may be in style but not necessarily appropriate. The best way to operate is to avoid walking
the line. If there is doubt, select something else to wear. Be a professional!
