ADA Policy:
Whenever possible, and in accordance with 504/ADA guidelines, I
will attempt to provide reasonable academic accommodations to
students who request and require them. Please call 713-743-5400
for more assistance. I do not provide accommodations unless the
appropriate paperwork accompanies the request. Retroactive
accommodations will not be made.
Academic Conduct:
Academic dishonesty will not be tolerated in this class. Failure to
report a dishonest act is also categorized as “Academic
Dishonesty” in the UH Student Handbook. If you notice a
classmate committing a dishonest act, please talk to me about it.
(See page 8 of the Student Handbook for more details on the UH
Policy.)
Calculators:
Calculators will not be allowed on any exam.
There are a couple of problems in the Trigonometry sections that
require a calculator Almost all of the homework from the book can
be done without a calculator, and I recommend not using one
unless the instructions call for it. This will better prepare you for
the exams during which calculators are not allowed.

CASA
is the Math Department testing center. It is in 221A Garrison.
Students are not permitted to bring any personal belongings to the
testing cubicle; the department is not liable for any lost or
misplaced personal belongings. A Cougar 1 id card is required to
check in. Tests begin on the hour; arriving late will shorten the
time you have to take a test. Reservations are required; the link to
the reservations system is on the WebCT homepage and on my
homepage; or you may use the url: casa.uh.edu. Reservations must
be made by midnight before the day the testing period begins.
CLASS majors:
This course is not recommended for CLASS majors.
Please take Math 2311 if you are one of these.
Course Policies Quiz is a mandatory experience. Take it on WebCT Vista during the first
couple of weeks. A score of 100 is a requirement. You will not be
allowed to take any quizzes until you’re finished this chore. Use the
13xx Policies statement from the Scantrons packet to find the answers.
Exams:
There will be four online exams at CASA and a mandatory comprehensive
final exam at the scheduled time in our classroom.
Note that NO exams will be dropped or omitted.
You must bring your Cougar 1 card to every test.

Help:
The CASA Tutoring Center offers tutoring and is free to all students in
this course. The hours are MTu 9 a.m.  6 p.m., WTh 9 a.m. – 7 p.m., and
F, 9 a.m.-2 p.m. It is located in 222 Garrison.
Learning Support Services tutors this course (3rd floor Social Work).
Audiovisual tapes of the course are available at the library in the Journals
and Periodicals section; tapes may be checked out for one week.
Help with the problems and streaming lectures is available from
www.online.math..uh/Math1330.
3
Homework:
Daily homework is part of the class. See my website for problem
numbers and due dates. The problems are located at the end of the text –
which is online.
No late homework will be accepted; homework is due two minutes before
lecture begins. I will drop the lowest 4 scores on the homework before
calculating your grade.
Homework will not be returned; homework grades will be posted to your
CourseWare gradebook twice a month. You are responsible for checking
your own grades.
None, one or two problems will be graded for each assignment.
Homework with the top part of the form filled in incorrectly will be
awarded a zero.
Makeups:
Makeup exams are rarely given, but they will be considered on a case-bycase basis for special circumstances. If it is necessary for you to miss an
exam, you must contact me to get a Makeup Petition form within 5
working days from the end of the scheduled exam period. Do not assume
that the committee will approve a makeup exam, and note that any
makeup given will not be the same as the missed exam!
Missing a test reservation or being unable to reschedule is not an adequate
reason for a makeup exam; a note from your Mom is NOT documentation.
Each student will be allowed one make-up test per semester.
Modifications:
I reserve the right to make modifications to the syllabus during the
semester as necessary. If any modifications become necessary, I will
announce them in class, post them on my website, or email them to you.
Students are responsible for any announcements no matter which medium
is used to announce them. Be sure to keep the email address on
CourseWare current and your spam filters accepting my email.
Online Quizzes:
Online quizzes will be given weekly in this course, starting during the
third week of classes. You may take these as many times as you want
during the week. Your highest score is retained as the score for that quiz.
If you have 3 or more scores below 70% at any time during the semester, I
will have the option, but not the responsibility, to drop you from the class.
If you want to be dropped, please do the appropriate paperwork and turn it
in timely.
There will be no makeup quizzes for any reason. Neither I, nor the Math
Department, is responsible for any difficulty that you have in accessing the
quizzes. Please don’t delay taking quizzes – there are times during the
week when WebCT Vista is slow or overloaded.
4
Please contact WebCT tech support directly if you are having problems.
The email link is on their homepage and the phone number is 713-7431411. They are located in 116 PGH.
70% rule: around midsemester – no firm date available – I will look over
your quiz scores…if you have 3 or more with final grades less than 70%
and I figure it out then, I’ll drop you from the course. Do NOT use this as
a way to drop without doing the paperwork; if I don’t drop you, then
you’re still in for a grade.
