 Provides the welcome address and then introduces Chancellor Curtis L. Ivery
WCCCD Chancellor Dr. Curtis L. Ivery will greet the guests to the Fall 2013 MCCB Conference
Presentation of the Colors
 The presentation of colors is a ceremony presenting or retiring a flag. The “colors” refer
to a flag. A color guard, consisting of two honor guards and two flag bearers, presents or
retires the colors. A Sergeant-at-Arms dictates the orders during the ceremony.
o Central Collegiate Academy:
 ROTC students will participate in this ceremony
 Has a dual enrollment program with Wayne County Community College
District
 Has a School Community Based Health Center which is a pilot program
sponsored by the American Public Health Association

 Joseph West, ScD, MSc, Senior Epidemiologist/Program Director of Sinai Urban Health
Institute in Chicago, Illinois and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine
Adjunct Assistant Professor in General Internal Medicine and Geriatrics will share his
story on how he discovered his career in research and his path of life (His book is entitled
“Trod the Stony Road: A Young Man’s Journey from the Mississippi to the Charles).

Wayne State University Associate Vice President for Research and Assistant Dean of Diversity Joseph
Dunbar, PhD, will discuss his research programs and the importance of preparing community college
students for academic studies and/or careers involving research.

Introduction of Saturday Keynote Speaker
Professor Toby Citrin who is the Director of the Center for Public Health Community Genomics
at the University of Michigan School of Public Health will introduce Dr. Mullis as our Saturday,
October 26, 2013 keynote speaker. He oversees projects which educate high school students in
Detroit and Flint, Michigan to science involving genomics, DNA, protein synthesis, and
genetics.

Kary Mullis, PhD, 1993 Nobel Prize Winner of Chemistry for his invention of the polymerase
chain reaction (PCR) utilized in DNA, genetics, and forensic science will lecture.

This demonstration exhibits how scientists and health professionals including veterinians assist
victims during disasters and emergencies (end events at NW Campus)
This demonstration involves “live table top” demonstrations present in 3 rooms

Tour the facilities and operations of the Wayne County Community College District Veterinary
