Message from the Program Co-Chairs
Welcome to MSWiM 2001, and welcome to Rome, Italy. This year MSWiM is being
held jointly with the 7th Annual International Conference on Mobile Computing and
Networking.
As co-chairs of the program committee, we have done our best to provide you a solid
technical program for MSWiM 2001. We received 55 paper submissions for this year's
conference, but we could only accommodate 16 papers. The increased number of
submissions confirms the growing importance of modeling, analysis, and simulation, in
the performance evaluation of wireless and mobile systems, and indicates the scientific
maturity of MSWiM as a cultural event.
We would like to thank all who have helped to make MSWiM 2001 a success,
particularly, the program committee and referees who provided high quality reviews
within a tight schedule. Special thanks to Professor Lorenzo Donatiello, General Chair,
and to Professor Azzedine Boukerche, Finance Chair, for guiding us at critical stages
where we needed help.
On behalf of Professor Azzedine Boukerche, the MSWiM’2001 organizing committee
wishes to thank Warren Burggren, Dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at the
University of North Texax for his support and generous help.
Among the accepted papers, the following three papers were shortlisted based on
nominations received from the program committee:
J. Merseguer, J. Campos, E. Mena
‘Performance Analysis of Internet-based Software Retrieval System
using Petri Nets’
A. Konrad, A.D. Joseph, R. Ludwig, B.Y. Zhao
‘A Markov-based Channel Model Algorithm for Wireless Networks’
A. Boukerche, S.K. Das, A. Fabbri
‘Message Traffic Control Capabilities of the R-DSDV Protocol
in Ad-Hoc Wireless Networks’
The Best paper will be reported in the next year's proceedings. In addition to the
technical papers, MSWiM 2001 has a distinguished keynote speaker, Dr. Cesare
Mossotto, Telecom Italia Lab, Italy.
We are please to announce the Best paper selected for MSWiM 2000, in Boston
Massachussets:
G. Zaruba, I. Chlamtac, S.K. Das
‘An Integrated Admission-Degradation Framework
for Optimizing Real-Time Call Mix in Wireless Cellular Networks’
In addition to ACM SIGMOBILE, our main sponsor, we have received support from the
University of North Texas at Denton. To these organizations and institutions, we express
our gratitude for their support.
Finally, thanks to all of you for your participation. We sincerly hope that you will enjoy
the workshop, and Rome.
