Standards-based grading involves measuring students' proficiency on well-defined learning targets (or standards). Rather than
giving students one grade on a test that assessed multiple skills, this framework provides students with feedback that

the essential content necessary for the next level. The focus is on the knowledge and skills, rather than solely on points.
Leveraging the new B.C. core competencies to invigorate assessment practices, we will explore how we might use standardsbased assessment to create clear, student-friendly learning targets with which to create a meaningful snapshot that represents our
students’ strengths and passions.
In this session we will:
- Practice constructing learning targets written in student friendly language.
