Directed and assisted technicians in the installation of new equipment for production, including the installation of furnaces and plasma spray equipment. 1980-1983 NEW PRODUCTS PROCESS DEVELOPMENT ENGINEER – Special Metals Corp., New Hartford, NY. Engineer Responsible for all aspects of developing new processes to produce atomized metal powder and superalloy wire, as well as finding new markets for these products. This involved the design and construction of complex mechanical equipment for rotary atomization and conducting extensive metallographic studies of the alloys. Conducted research in liquid phase sintering of nickel and cobalt based alloys. Developed detailed production processes and quality standards from melting through shipping the final product. This involved working with numerous converters throughout the United States. 1978-1979 R&D MANAGER - Homogeneous Metals Inc., Herkimer, NY. Set up and managed the R & D Laboratory. Conducted research in the production of titanium powder by hydrogen reduction. Classical thermodynamics showed the reactions to be impossible. The first phase of research involved rigorous thermodynamic calculations to develop equations for non-steady state reactions. Conducted research in plasma melting of materials. 1978 DEVELOPMENTAL METALLURGIST - Chicago Pneumatic Tool Co., Utica, NY. Conducted research in failure analysis, physical testing, heat treating, metallography, and plating. Developed new composite materials. 1973-1978 CORROSION LABORATORY MANAGER – CHEMICAL AND METALLURGICAL ENGINEER - Revere Copper & Brass Research and Development Center, Rome, NY. Conducted research in failure analysis, metallography, conductivity studies, painting, plating, coatings, materials compatibility, and helped design and develop Revere Solar Panels. Did research in buffing compounds and developed a new compound used in manufacturing. Developed new manufacturing methods. Solved a photo resist problem that had been labeled by Kodak as “unexplainable”. Was asked by the Bolivian Oil Company to act as a QC Advisor on procedures used in oil well studies. This involved checking thermodynamic data used to determine properties within the well. Developed new methods and procedures to analyze oil well data. 1972 CHEMICAL AND SPECTROGRAPHIC LABORATORIES MANAGER - Fundicion de Estano, Oruro, Bolivia, S.A. Managed the Chemistry Lab and set up a Spectrographic Lab. Conducted research in extractive tin metallurgy and refining techniques that were incorporated into production. Developed processes for better tin recovery from low grade ores. Conducted research in procedures to remove specific impurities from tin ores. Responsibilities also included scheduling work for production and the laboratories. 1971-1972 SPECTROSCOPIST - Special Metals Corporation, New Hartford, NY. Performed Spectroscopic and X-Ray analysis of metals. 1970 PHLEBOTOMIST AND CHEMIST – St Elizabeth Hospital, Utica, NY. Miscellaneous 1976 – 1980 MAYOR - Village of Cold Brook, NY. 1980 – 1984 TOWN SUPERVISOR AND BUDGET OFFICER - Town of Russia, NY. Duties were similar to that of Mayor but on a wider scale. Was responsible for all aspects of town government including presiding over meetings, bidding of equipment, finance, investment, payroll and fiduciary reports, annual reports and preparation of the budget. Took courses in accounting and municipal accounting while Mayor and Town Administrator. Held Board of Directors positions in several small companies, and did industrial consulting. From 1982 to 1987, built, organized and ran four restaurants. In 1986, built a computer inventory control system for the restaurants.
