To access the placement test, go to www.ucf.mylabsplus.com and login using the credentials
sent in an email. This email was send after you paid your enrollment deposit.
If you cannot remember your password, please click the “Forgot My Password” link on at
www.ucf.mylabsplus.com.
Passwords are case sensitive.
Your login will be your NID which can be found at
https://my.ucf.edu/static_support/pidnidwrapper.html
Once you have logged in you may change your password at any time by clicking “My Profile” at
the top right corner of the homepage. We advise that you change it upon your first login and
every few months thereafter.
You should see your placement test “course” listed under the Course List. Click on the title of the
“course” to enter. An example of a course name is “UCF Placement Test 1/4/10-1/10/10 Week
1”.
Once you’re in the “course”, make the following clicks to arrive at your test:
o Click on the “UCF Placement Tests” button on the navigation menu to the left
o Click on the “Placement Test” link underneath the button.
o Click on “Take your placement test” link in the window.
o The first time you do this, there will be a license agreement and privacy policy that you
will need to accept in order to proceed.
o You will then see a list of the available tests.
The test list includes several math tests and a “CHEM” test. This will place students in the correct
Chemistry course.
o It is a requirement to take the Chemistry test in order to register for General Chemistry
courses.
o Though the Chemistry test is optional, it is highly advised that all students take the
Chemistry placement test. You never know if you’ll need to take Chemistry courses later
in your college career.
All students must take the math placement test. To do this, follow the below steps:
o Click on the “ALG” test which is at the top of the list. All students must start at the “ALG”
test.
o The test overview will outline the number of questions, the time allotted for the
assignment, and a link to the “How to enter answers tutorial”. It is highly suggested that
you click on the entering answers tutorial prior to starting.
o When ready, you will click on the “I am ready to start” button.
You will be allowed 1 hour 45 minutes to complete the 25 Algebra questions.
Provided your score is high enough on “ALG”, you will have the opportunity to answer 15
Trigonometry questions and 15 Precalculus questions. You will have 1 hour 15 minutes for each
of the Trigonometry and Precalculus sections.
You are welcome to take a break between sections, even come back another day to finish the
testing; however once you start a section, there is a timer that will be running so a break during a
section would not be advisable.
When taking the placement test, you will need a BASIC scientific calculator. You may NOT USE
A GRAPHING CALCULATOR while taking the test. The calculator used in most of the
mathematics courses is the TI-30XA calculator which retails for under $15.00.
Once you’ve completed your testing, you’ll see where you’ve placed on the screen. You will then
be emailed your raw score.
Students wanting to improve their score can click on the Study Plan.
o The “Study Plan” is created based on what each individual student gets incorrect on the
placement test. You can identify the areas where you can improve by looking for the
pencil icons.
o The exercises assigned in your study plan have an array of assistance available,
including “Help Me Solve This” and “View an Example” tutorials, videos, animations, and
more. Use these tools to help you learn the material!
o

o
If you complete all pencil items in the study plan (meaning 100%), you have the
opportunity to take the placement test again. You can do this by emailing
mathplacement@mail.ucf.edu.
In the email, you must include your name and the name of the Placement Test course.
You can find this when your first login to the site. (Here’s an example of a course name“UCF Placement Test 1/4/10-1/10/10 Week 1”
Once your email is sent, it can take up to 5 days for your Study Plan completion to be
verified and the test reset so that you can take it again.

Answers to Frequently Asked Questions regarding the UCF Placement Test:
I did not receive an email with my login name and password. What do I do?
To login, go to www.ucf.mylabsplus.com, click the “Forgot My Password” link and enter the email address
you provided to UCF. You should receive an email with your login credentials quickly.
There are 3 Math tests. Where do I start?
All students should start with the ALG test. The green flags seen next to the TRIG and PCAL tests
indicate that there is a pre-requisite. Students must complete the ALG test with a 70% or better to view
the TRIG test. Students must take the TRIG test to begin the PCAL test.
Do I have to take the Chemistry test?
Technically, no, but you will not be able to register for General Chemistry unless you take this test. Many
students change their majors and need to take the test later in their college career. You only have the
ability to take the Chemistry test for 16 weeks, starting the date you begin your placement test.
What types of questions are on the test?
Each test contains both free response and multiple choice questions.
What topics are covered on the tests?
Students can access learning objectives here: www.math.ucf.edu
How do I know what course I placed into?
When students complete the test(s), the screen will show a “Results” page that includes the course(s)
they can register for.
How do I know what my score is?
When students complete the test(s), they will receive a message stating which course they have placed
into. Students will receive an email with the raw score of each test taken.
Can I take the test again?
If you would like to improve your placement score, you can use the Study Plan, accessible from within the
placement testing system for up to 16 weeks from the date you took your first test. The Study Plan is an
interactive learning environment where you can view examples of similar questions, use an interactive
"help me solve this" feature to check their understanding of the content with some provided guidance, and
complete exercises without guidance to check your understanding. After you have earned 100% on all
the Study Plan questions that needed additional practice (these are denoted by a pencil), you are
encouraged to email mathplacement@mail.ucf.edu to request an additional attempt at the placement test.
You must include your name, a statement that you have completed all Study Plan questions assigned
with 100% accuracy, and the week number in your course title. The course title is displayed when you
first log into the system. A typical course title would look similar to: UCF Placement Test 1/4/10-1/10/10
Week 1. You will receive a return email when the test has been set to allow an additional attempt.
Please note that this process can take up to five business days. You may take the test a maximum of 2
times.
