The gavel was passed to incoming chairman, Rick Jamieson. As his first official act as chairman, Rick present Ray with a plaque in recognition for his years of service to the BMC. New members were recognized – Fras-le, Link Engineering and Trelleborg. A review of the antitrust guidelines was given by Jack Cameron. 1 There was a review of the new BMC Operating Principles which are replacing the previous by-laws. Noted changes were the installation of a slate of Officers replacing the previous board of directors. Elected officer positions include chairman, first vice chairman, second vice chairman, secretary plus an immediate past chairman. Additional officers include, managing director and staff executive from the AASA management staff. Adoption of the Operating Principles was voted and approved unanimously. The 2010 Slate of Officers was presented with the following moving up through the chairs – Rick Jamieson, chairman; Bob Wilkes, first vice chairman; Frank Oliveto, second vice chairman. The nomination committee comprised of the seated officers presented their nominee for secretary, Ken Sellinger of FederalMogul. He was voted on and approved unanimously. Steve Handschuh, AASA president and COO presented the State of the Industry including a brief overview of the MEMA structure and Know Your Parts campaign. A copy of his presentation is contained in the member-only section of the BMC website www.brakecouncil.org. Ann Wilson, MEMA Senior Vice President of Government Affairs provided an overview of key legislative and regulatory issues including a detailed report on state-led copper ban legislation. A copy of her presentation is also on the member-only section of the BMC website. BMC member, Terry Heffelfinger of Affinia gave a report of the Product Environment Committee (PEC). Terry’s report provided more detail on copper issues and alternatives. The presentation is posted to the BMC website. Current members of the PEC include Terry Heffelfinger and Mark Phipps, both of which also sit on the Brake Pad Partnership (BPP). Volunteers were asked to fill the position on the PEC vacated by Bob Peters. Steve Bell with ABS Friction agreed to serve. PEC members include: Terry Heffelfinger, Mark Phipps and Steve Bell. Jack Cameron reviewed briefly the new BMC website and the request was made to form a Website Content Committee (WCC). The purpose of the WCC would be to recommend and facilitate content to populate and enhance the new website. Bill Carney agreed to chair this committee along with committee volunteers Leandro Girardi, Bill Murray and Frank Oliveto. A Membership Recruitment Committee (MRC) was also proposed by the officers. The purpose of the MRC would be to review current membership requirements and make recommendations to the council. Additionally, they would assist in the recruitment of new members. Frank Oliveto agreed to chair this committee along with committee volunteers Tim Duncan and Jack van den Boogaart. 2 Also recommended by the Officers was the formation of a Brake Components Standards Committee (BCSC). Bob Wilkes explained the need to create minimum standards that could be adopted by the industry and endorsed by the BMC needed to combat the flood of inferior off-shore products. After discussion, the council agreed to take this on. Bob Wilkes agreed to chair along with committee volunteers Roy Eastham, Bill Murray, Jack van den Boogaart, Jerry Shavrnoch, Bill Carney and Steve Bell. All committees agreed to meet via teleconference at least once prior to the next BMC meeting and report on their progress. Plans for the night’s group BMC dinner at the Chart House were reviewed.
