_________________________________________________________________________________________
I am pleased to announce a new call for applications for the Alexander Gralnick Research Award. The purpose
of the Alexander Gralnick Research Award is to fund psychiatric, mental health nursing research, and/or
psychosocial research projects.
There will be two deadlines for the Alexander Gralnick Research Award applications – one in the Fall:
November 10, 2015, and one in the Spring: March 2, 2016. An external reviewer will be hired to review
applications and submit comments with award and funding recommendation to the Dean. Written
comments will be shared with applicants.
The following conditions apply to the grant application:
1.
Applicants must be Lienhard School of Nursing faculty, staff, students, or alumni.
2.
You must submit the attached application form along with your proposal narrative. The proposal
narrative (excluding budget justification and biosketch) should not exceed 3 pages single-spaced (12
point font Times New Roman, 1-inch margins).
3.
Support will be provided to cover research expenses such as costs for personnel (research assistant,
transcriber, and consultant), equipment, supplies, and travel. Total budget may not exceed $5,000.
4.
Grants are made for a 12-month period, and unexpended funds may not be carried over from one year to
the next unless special approval from the Dean or Associate Dean for Faculty Scholarship has been
obtained.
5.
Please be sure to state in your request whether you have discussed your research project with an external
funder, and also if you intend to seek funds from other sources, internal or external, to support other
aspects of this research.
6.
Proposals will be judged on the basis of likelihood that the research effort will lead to dissemination,
including presentation and publication, and to substantial external funding. In addition, please include a
brief description of how the project meets the specific requirements for the Alexander Gralnick Research
Award as described above.
7.
A report on the use of the award, including financial information, is required to be submitted to the
ALPS Office, the Associate Dean for Faculty Scholarship, and the Dean within six weeks of the end of
the award period. Additionally you must agree to present at a faculty meeting.
8.
Note: Approval of the research by the Institutional Review Board is not required for submission of the
grant proposal, but the approval is required prior to beginning the research study.
For LSN Faculty: I encourage you to meet with Dr. Carol Roye, Associate Dean for Faculty Scholarship, to
discuss your project and research trajectory. I will be happy to assist you with budget development and answer
any questions you may have about this call for applications and internal research grants.
Good luck with your proposal!
